Worse than the press at getting it wrong, it was a mouse in the bread not a rat.

Should never have sent it to the manufacturer, contact environmental health and the press and the payout would have been more.

It's been a while since I've ventured into this area of law but I doubt much has changed...

Environmental Health require the product and foreign body in question to pursue a case through the Criminal Courts if that's the course of action that they decide to pursue (granted it'll be part of the purchasers statement/exhibit but it'll still go through the Criminal Courts). You might obtain some compensation but there's no obligation on the manufacturer to do anything for the consumer as the case is being heard in a Criminal Court and no civil action has been taken by the individual against the manufacturer (which IS an option).

The Manufacturer will do as little as possible and will bust a gut to recover the product so that the evidence is in their control (you'll never have it returned despite their promises to the contrary). You'll probably get a few quid or a voucher.

The only way to make a few quid (easily) is to hope that it's a slow news day and that the press will sensationalise your surprise find to the max which in turn prompts the manufacturer to reassure the readership that they're an upstanding company. Invariably this comes in the form of appeasing the wronged individual with a bucket load of cash which is reported in the same article.

That's my boring (well, more boring than usual obviously) post of the year sorted Wink Thumbs Up

Ross frozen mixed veg, still havent bought any since.

i took it to the council EHO, had to sit and make a stupidly long statement, lots of other hoops to go through, the pretty lady wrote and pressed for compensation on my behalf. In the investigation they found that Ross had done everything in there power to stop the rodent entering the food chain, and it was one of those unfortunate things.

I`ll give it a bit longer then have a horrific flashback and try again Mr. Green

Free meat and people are moaning! Unless it was included in the net weight in which case it was paid for. Why would someone need compensation for a dead mouse? To pay for the funeral? Very Happy

Now that's a fair f^ckin point right there.

I worked in a bakery for quite a few years and the shit that goes on in food prep in just crazy.

Other than the odd vermin scooting about I remember the boss cutting his hand pretty good on a pastry roller once and bled all over the rollers belts.
When he returned he simply scraped it up with the remaining pastry and chucked it into the next mix.
I didn't eat a pie from there for about 4 days just to make sure I didn't snag one from that batch.

Seriously though shit happens and it doesn't matter what the job.
So long as it's not complete filth I'm all good with it.

besides how many of us get the odd mouse in the house at home.
It could quite easily lob into your food without you knowing.

When I prep food for someone else I work by the rule if I would eat it then they can eat it.

As for personal compensation ......my ass.

Get a replacement for the item purchase and move along.
