Must be as we had mosh pits and we didn't run round in circles like socks in a washing machine back in the 80's

there are still normal, very violent pits all the time.

Only ones I'm really bothered about missing this year were Hatebreed and Down though.

I went when it was Monsters of Rock too...in 1987, 1988, and 1995.

Metallica headlined in 1995.

I much prefer the idea of it being just a one day event, because you can easily go it alone, as I usually did with rock gigs. I wouldn't like the idea of setting up camp alone...

87,88, 91,95 for monsters of rock then a 10 year festival gap until Download 05...

The three day festivals great if you've got several carloads of friends camping together...

It was Thunder, they were brilliant.

Circle pits are a laugh, having spent time in both mosh and circle pits they're a fair bit safer for the average wuss. Think of a circle pit as human dodgems, you're all moving (mostly) in the same direction but it's pretty physical in there. Feel free to sneer and feel old skool, just bear in mind not everyone considers a scar the sign of a good time.

Clanger, it's not bad going on your own to a three dayer. This is the second year that I have (did it with many rallies as well), and again it was a blinder. It's easy enough to meet up with people if you want company. Getting a group together is like herding cats though, mostly just can't be arsed. Having said that, was good to see Yambabe Smile

Fucking awesome weekend.

Just got back yesterday after being perpetually mashed for the whole weekend.

I lost my clothes crowdsurfing to Killswitch Engage; got to the front and went over the barriers. Was a good 30 foot to mosh.

Slipknot were EPIC and all the nu-metal bands from 2000-2002 that were makign a comeback gave me a slice of my life back. The irony was that back in the day, it was our common love for cheesy bands like Limp Bizkit and Korn that brought us together; and how appropriate to have the same best mates, a decade later still rocking on strong.

I believe the surprise band this year were Pantera?

Anyway, big up the green camp massive. I feel like an utter prick for falling asleep to Dream Theatre and Dragonforce but that's what happens when you skin up a blunt and consume it. It was an EPIC weekend.

Here are some pics to share.

Sorry if pics weren't great since they were taken on a phone cam.

My Aim was to surf into Howard Jones' direction and it worked a treat!

https://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs117.snc1/4853_114029850711_500990711_2762411_3663881_n.jpg

Having lost my clothes, my mates gave me a dress!

https://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs117.snc1/4853_114029885711_500990711_2762413_161550_n.jpg

A dice between Korn and Opeth - might as well stand between the two stages and catch both acts!

https://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs117.snc1/4853_114029980711_500990711_2762431_4371872_n.jpg

Go as far forward as possible, turn around, jump and take a pick - that's what you get. 75000 download-heads just waiting for slipknot

https://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs117.snc1/4853_114030030711_500990711_2762439_746654_n.jpg

NOT UNTIL I SAY, JUMP THE FUCK UP!

The circle pit was considered an effective means of transport - like a human carousel. NOWHERE NEAR as horrendous as the Sylosis or Meshuggah pits we were in.

https://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs117.snc1/4853_114030040711_500990711_2762441_1269723_n.jpg

Best feeling EVER - everybody with the devil horns in the air!

I needed to piss before slipknot but since i was caught in a bottle fight and didn't want to leave my mates, i decided to dispense my fresh lucazade into a bottle, screwed it up and dashed it into the crowd. Hit some poor sod, who undid the bottle and launched it further into the crowd. Suncream was being sprayed as well as anti-bacterial gel lol!

Here are some pics from the village and random stoned adventures

https://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs117.snc1/4975_91127114183_640924183_1777739_1027089_n.jpg

Talking-horse-Tot is just TOO much for people to take in, especially when the stuff coming out of him was along the lines of

"When I say Date, You Say Rape! DATE!!!" Got an alarming amount of replies too which is what I kinda expected
At some point there was a "Josef Fritzl" chant being said aloud.

I got bored of the Buttscratcher chant so we came up with an OJ SIMPSON, OOOAAAJAAAY SIIIMMPSON chant which everybody pissed up at.

Also, when going past the bogs, I usually screamed out "If you're happy and you know it, take a shit!"

https://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs097.snc1/4975_91126824183_640924183_1777690_1611620_n.jpg

"Does this smell like cholorform?" Oh it does? Nevermind, I'm wearing a mask!

But it's epic that everybody there is pretty tolerant and anything is an excuse to get stoned or drunk.

Also found it advantageous to have a house in Loughborough only 10 mins away. We all ended up crashing at mine between 10-12 to freshen up and tear up the town - a bunch of stoned download heads and me in a hyperactive state just beatboxing and Mc-ing obscene lyrics reminded us that the acceptable behaviour and conduct at Download certainly does not conform to civilisation.

But THE BEST weekend i've had in a long while - surpassed Download 2007 and 08 for me purely because of the bands and the coming of age thing - last ever act of stupidity before being a professional
