Google "digi gear indicator", Oxford and Acumen are the two biggest names for them. These two take the signal off your speed, and then your RPM, and from that, they can tell which gear you're in.

There are other ones that plug into the bike, and the bike tells them directly what gear it's in. Forget the name, but made by the same people who make 'speedo healer'.

I had one, the only use I ever found it good for was checking I was in second before trying to do wheelies. Big waste of money. Theory sounds good, but listening to the engine is much better.

Funny, I've only been riding for a fortnight and my brain can already do that by itself. About the first 2 days I was a bit confused and thought one of these might be a good idea, then found out they're the best part of a hundred quid and just learnt the revs for 30mph in 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 40mph in 3rd, 4th and 5th.... any higher than that (50 upwards), well, I'm on a 125 so I'm in 5th with my wrist as far back as I can get it Wink

I don't think they're off any real use if as above you've learned the revs and tone of your bike, but I still want one. Another thing to the shopping list. Shifty

my little 125 honda has one as part of the bike
but then its in import and all my gears go down.

i never know what gear im in, it's not really important, just pick the one that feels right for what your doing i think, i find on twisty's i pretty much stick in 2nd or 3rd, motorways 6th, you could take 5th away and i wouldn't even care lol.

can see how there usefull for wheelies and maybe trackdays though. Put it this way, if one was fitted i wouldn't take it off.

I'm constantly asking my bike to move up another gear, when I'm in fifth...I don't see this as a problem, I just think 'oh, I'm in fifth already', and carry on.

thats a GIPRO and i think they are only for suzuki's and Kawasaki
thats because they are also a TRE Thumbs Up

Its a problem if your trying to go flat out, loose alot of speed very quickly at high speeds without anything driving you forward.

Only good if you are a $hite rider that doesn't have the capability to tell the gear by engine/road speed. Got one on my 1150GS and never use it(its covered with tape now) as I know what gear I am in I don't need it to tell me.

Total waste of money and doesn't do anything to aid riding. Thumbs Down

Don't see the need for then personally, you only need to know whether to go up or down.

Even on track you only need to know to drop it x number of gears for a given bend.
