Just got some of an old tenants post through one of our landlords doors this morning. Notification of speeding fine for 36mph in a 30 limit. Shocked

My maximum speed in a 30 limit is 30...

Depends on the time.

We have a long straight 30 road with no cars parked on it and few turnoffs. It's a main road through a town, and at daytime has a fair amount of traffic on it, pedestrians and vehicles, but only at school closing time (it's a main route from the nearby comp school, so i don't speed at all at that time).

I'm facing a fine for doing about 50 on said road at 5 pm, but I've come back from work and have managed to get up to 80 on the straighter portion of the road, at 2 am, when there's nary another human in sight.

Call me an idiot, other people have done a few things more daft Razz.

It does honestly depend on the road. Generally i do try and stick to 30, although it could even be 15 if its past a school/through a busy town centre. However - there is one 30 where I will happily do 60. Its a bypass with houses on only one side, never very busy, junctions are roundies or lights which I slow down for early.

I won't lie, I have done more than "Up to 30" but that is what I voted, as it is my "rule" occasionally I don't realise I have exceeded 30, but a glance at the speedo and I will slow down again.
That and the 20/30s are the areas most police tend to "hide" and clock people, because they are the villages/town centers and other places where it really is stupid to speed.

I voted for between 30-35, but I'm sure I've (accidentally!) gone much faster.

If I'm in a 30, I do try to stick to 30 (as I do with all speed restrictions) but there are various things that make it impractical on some roads.

Have done, and will continue to do, quite scarily (for my licence). Besides, a 30 limit on a road of a width more than that of some 40's is stupid. The problem is that they can't restrict the speed to a certain amount at a certain time on this road. Doing so would set a precedent about which roads should be time-restricted, and bog the already incompetent department for transportation down in even more coffe and biscuits, er, paperwork.

in the habit of blasting down 30mph roads when theyre empty, usually early mornings or late nite. But theres a long slightly windy road going from the big roundabout towards eltham highstreet that i tend to blast down. Rule of thumb i usually avoid going above 35 in a built up area, especially near schools

Can't give a straight answer - depends entirely on the road, the time and the conditions.

I have, regrettably, done 110 in a 30 (in my car). The road itself / timing/ conditions would have been 'safe' for 60-70 at the time. Even although getting to that speed was something like 8 seconds and no more than several hundred metres, the 110 was pushing it to the point of being lunatic. The full weight of the potential consequences dawned on me 300 yards further down the road and I had a mild panic attack. Needless to say, never done anything like it since.

I normally do 40 in a 30 zone but have done close on triple the limit but its not something I make a habit of doing and I wouldn't do it where there's people around.

I tend to do 30-35mph, purely because even on the bike I have I find it hard to keep it down, I could just take my eyes off the speedo look back and I would be heading towards 40 Shocked

Well 30 is the only speed limit I can only break, considering my bike rarely manages to get over 40 Laughing Rolling Eyes

I do try to stick to 30 and always ride at under 30 when there's kids around but if it's quiet I'll find myself doing upto 35mph. 30's and 40's are generally for a reason (side roads, pedestrians, etc.) so I try to stick to them unless traffic's moving significantly faster and I'd be more of a danger not to go with the flow.
50's + however, now that's a different story Very Happy Embarassed

depends on the time of day, condition of the road etc.

3pm outside a school on a winding wet road with speedcameras everywhere and i'm not going above 20.

on my estate at 1am on a clear dry night i will have no fear of going 40+

just common sense really

Usually depends on the road. 30mph in most situations, but sometimes, like if I know the road well or it's clearly not a "30 road" then I'll do whatever I feel comfortable.
And that doesn't mean I'll speed past a school or something. Some road have 30 limits for a reason.

Just over 30mph up to about 36mph, it's sort of in an uncomfortable rev range in 1st or 2nd (honest officer) so I vary the speed a slightly to keep it smooth.

I have rarely ever come across a 30mph limit that is NOT in a built up area, but there is one in Farnborough. I was travelling at 36mph and the van which was overtaking me had to be travelling at at least 50mph. The coppers nicked me on my bike because the 'camera wasnt ready to get the van!!!' Crock or what...(it had to be a statistics thing) anyway £40 fine & 3 points aint worth it.

I now try and do 30 in a 30, staying behind a car if possible and leaving the bike in a low gear....Im damned if Im gonna get points on my licence for such a piddly thing as 6mph over the limit again!!!!

Under 35 during the day, but you end up with cars up your arse.

Hit 90 once, but that was 3am mid week.

I'm soo paranoid about being caught and being shafted.
