I have finally clocked up 4000 miles on my Freewind - after 8.5 years, so have decided to service it.
I have changed the oil, mixing brands. I don't know if I have also mixed oil types, they both said 4stroke..
anyway..
when I removed the air intake filter I noticed there was a wet patch on it. After a scratch and sniff I decided this was petrol.
Is that normal?
I have washed the filter, soaked it in oil and replaced it.
Today I have had the bike running as I have been playing with the idle time screw thingey. I decided to take the filter out again to have a look at it. It smells of petrol but I can't make out if it has absorbed any liquid as I think it still has too much washing up liquid and oil in it - so I have given it another squeeze and put it back in.
Is my bike going to blow up?
Lisa

from what my uncle tells me thats completely normal, mine was absolutely saturated with petrol! he said because it had not been run for an extremely long time just kicking it over and over again, petrol would go into the air box.

it probably would be a good idea to replace the air filter with a new one that is not full of petrol, also i'm sure your bike wont explode because of this, unless ofcourse you take a box of matches to it Laughing

Oh that is a relief!
I was worried the bike would blow up on the way to work.
It's OK when you know what you are doing but I don't!
Thanks.

Hi Gary.
I don't actually know any bikers!!
I'll see if I can squeeze any more liquid out of it - if not I'll phone the garage and see if they have got any in stock.
Thanks
Lisa

Take the foam out and leave it to dry for a couple of days, even better on a radiator although not really radiator season.

Avoid going out on the bike without the filter in case you get caught in a downpour (although I have run a couple of bikes without them with no issues whatsoever).
