How does it work if the phone is unlocked from a network provider.

Need to get out a 3 contract and they will unlock the phone after we pay the remaining money and were then left with the phone. Judging by the sales person it won't be much use after anyways?

Well, if your phone is locked to 3 network, it will only work on that network. If you apply the phone unlock code (normally available from the current provider if you ask very nicely or by paying some phone shop to find the code for you), you can use it on other carriers.

The phone won't be useless at all. You might have to find the internet settings from you new carrier, but I'm sure they'll help you do this...
