Hey all. Bought an arrow exhaust off ebay the other day and fit it today. Its in v good nick. Started fine and sounded nice so i took it for a quick ride. Got to a roundabout 2 mins from my house and I could smell something funny. Checked the end can first, nothing coming from there and then I turned around to cross the roundabout and i find smoke coming from the front of the bike.
The exhaust looks to be painted. Anybody had any experiences with exhaust paint and it smelling foul for a while until its burnt?

I think actually the heat causes chemical reactions that make it heatproof. Should only smell for a short while.

Thanks all.
I was worried it was something engine related so headed home straight away but it didnt seem to 'smoke' when idling in the backyard. Maybe its already burnt off the paint.
I'll take it out for a short trip again tomorrow and get the exhaust hot and see if the problem continues. I'll keep you updated.
Cheers

I used matt black heat paint (upto 400c) to paint a 200cc 2T expansion chamber and that smoked a bit - After about 1 hour it stopped and the exhaust is still looking good.

Lol. Its not just me then.
I took it out again for a run and not as much smoke today. Paint must be nearly burnt off. Bloody stinks.
I noticed that there was some bubbling at the end closest to the engine which wasnt there before fitting. Probs where the hottest part is?
The bloke probably coated it with some Dulux decorative paint. Doesn't look very durable. lol. Thanks all.

If you have the bare metal downpipes hey are apparently coated with an oil based substance, But after first ride or two it burns off, you should give it a light sanding off to make sure its clean and smooth and give it a couple of coats of good HT Paint, keep the coats thin and even as if you put it on libraly it goes patchy and ugly.
Thumbs Up
