selecting gears (up or down) is a big problem, going up is moderately alright but doesn't go past 3rd. going down from 3rd is impossible with your foot.

the gear lever becomes loose and unresponsive when down shifting although bites eventually when you shift up and down repeatedly.

dt125re 2005, done 12,000 miles. no servicing for 7k miles other than fluid changes.

ideas on the problem ?, is there any particular things that DTs require servicing wise at this mileage ?

thanks for any help

bump

the bikes being dropped into the garage on friday so an idea on how much i should expect to pay and what else should probably be changed whilst the engines stripped would be helpful.

hey ... hows the clutch on yr bike? ... is the cable correctly adjusted? ... if they'rs too much slack an the clutch isnt properly dis-engaging then this can make the gears hard to change.

hope u get if fixed an its just the clutch cable and nothing too expensive.

Have you owned it since new?

the gear selectors are probly gone, cant say its a common fault, Dt engines are quite good. But if its been thrashed for 12k miles, probly foooked.

have the clutch plates ever been changed?

sounds like your gear selector shaft is bandjoed or the spring which retains it on the gear selector drum has either broken or come off. however this should not be a major engine strip as it is easily accessible from the clutch casing side. parts should be cheap & the fix it is only a couple of hours labour. as i say to anyone who has no choice but to use a bike shop, ask them for a price 1st & press them for a quote coz once they have your bike they have you by the nads.
