Hi,

The estate I live on is situated just off the A96, between Inverness and Aberdeen, there's a stretch of road, which leads up to a roundabout, and cars are constantly tearing up and down it (when the traffic isn't too heavy). The thing is, the other side of the road, is McDonalds. So you can imagine the number of people which want to cross said road. It's a 40, which, personally, I think is fast enough.

Boy racers, motorcyclists, you name the group of drivers, and they're generally showing off and being idiots.

This is fustrating, as 1) There's a industrial estate just off said road, which is empty by night. 2) The other side of the roundabout is a empty NSL road 3) It's actually quite scary when walking my dogs, to see a car come sliding towards you as said boy racer has lost control 4) It's actually quite difficult to cross the road if you ever need to.

I hate to sound old and boring (I know I am), but is there any one that I can contact to try and at least get this investigated, to find out if it's just me being too old, or if the cars are travelling too fast?

(To find said road, go to Google maps, find Elgin, look towards the east and find the A96, the road is between Linkwood way and Reiket Lane. The Roundabout is where the junction shows (old Maps by Google)

Thanks in advance

Chriss

Contact local council, police etc....

You might even have a local road safety group, that could help.

Is to work out... measure the distance between two spots on the road, then time the vehicles between them.
Don't forget your flat cap and yellow 'safety jacket', though Wink.

Contacted the local safety partnership, who said if there was sufficient need they may put a camera up (apparently there have already been enough accidents to warrant it).

The council said there are already plans to reduce the road to 30 mph.

I'd much rather PC Plod sat there for a few nights over a couple of weeks, which would probably be more effective. Rolling Eyes Crazy idea eh?

Setting it to 30 wont help, will just piss people off (didnt look at google maps but i am assuming its not houses both sides with parked cars) etc.

But i think in that situation the 40 just needs to be enforced. So (I cant beleive i am saying this) speed cameras or perhaps more effective little bollards which a: help people cross and 2: make people pay attention and perhaps drive more slowly down the road.

I am meaning the bollards which make the road windy.

Couldn't you just put a petition in for a pedestrian bridge or something?

Those foolish enough to visist McDonalds should be thankful of the exercise dodging cars to work off their meals.

Should one of them be killed, then society becomes a better place.

I don't see the problem.

I know that road, my grandparents live in elgin, and my aunt and uncle live in the darklands so when I'm up there I go down that road, and yeah I do agree you do see some people really dicking about there. But at the same time its quite a busy road so dropping the speed limit wont help much I don't think.
