Hi Tec Magnums- do the job or end in tears?

I'm pretty confident that I don't need shiny slider bits, which seems to mean I don't need to hand over large wodges of cash for something that says 'motorbike' on it.

(I'm steering clear of army surplus for the time being, but I'm not discounting it completely).

I've a pair of the Sidi waterproof boots and my feet are starting to hum in this warm weather!

Any thoughts?

Ta,
Rich

Something like German Army boots are verygood for this time of year.
They seem to have gotten more expensive and scarce lately.
Not keen on the look-a-like new ones

+1 I have two pairs, they are the best boots in the world ever.

As above, avoid the wank copies. Make sure some kraut has got blisters in them first. Laughing

I wear Magnums for at least 10 hours each day, and they are well worth the money. Better than most bike boots I've owned by a long way.

Well they won't split any easier than short bike boots.
You can wear them in comfort all day and walk miles too without looking a prat.

I wear SWAT boots, had the one with the air style bubble in the heels and now I have just the original styled. Only reason I changed was the fact that the soles had worn a little thin after 18 months or more and a little smelly after 12 hour shifts.

£60 or thereabouts?

They are also stunningly waterproof. I got caught riding in pissing rain wearing just combats, an old leather and the german para boots. Every inch of me was soaked to the skin, with the exception of my feet and ankles which were bone dry and cosy. Thumbs Up

My bold. If you're talking about the Magnum Hi Tecs I would most definetly not reccomend this! I used them for my Duke of Edinburghs Award Expedition, about 20km a day with a heavy rucksack across moorland. The boots had such little (practically non-existant) ankle support that by the end of the 3 days I could barely walk as my ankles were just completley fooked from the lack of support! In contrast the Pro boots ( the ones Flip is talking about) are very good boots, I did my Gold expedition in these and they were brilliant! Plus a couple of mates in the army swear by them! One of them also uses them to ride a bike and I also plan to use mine once I start riding.

Sorry just realised that I have turned this thread into one about walking boots so I'll shut up now Embarassed Laughing !!!

What are they like in the winter? Do they do a good job of keeping your feet warm?

i've found it takes about a month to break magnums in, and as for walking miles i did my gold exp ( the only bit i did) i didn't have an issue with the ankles.

i've got some random french furygans which are good but the ankle stitching has come away

The Pro Boots do a stunning job of keeping your feet nice and toasty all year round as they have a thinsulate liner which works really well Thumbs Up !

Fair enough! Mine just felt like a pair of trainers if I'm being perfectly honest and as I said did very little to support my ankles because of the cordura ankles they have. Just my 2p's worth! Smile

I've worn mine all winter, through 2 winters. Never had cold toes once which previously I've always suffered from (poor circulation in extremities).

I do wear 'double socks' all the time though, I can't comment on how they are with single flimsy socks etc.

Though quite why anyone would wear single flimsy socks with army boots, I've no idea.

Magnums are little better than high leg trainers. Poorly made and wear out rapidly.

Woefully inadquate for motorbike use.

I Bought a few pairs, and one pair was destroyed in one week long exercise, fortunately i carried my issue DMS highs otherwise id have been in trouble.

Overpriced crap tbh

I found the Pro boot made my feet sweat badly. I just keep wearing DMS highs. The "assault" boot is so so, the soles are soft crap as are the pro boots.

Yep, my thoughts entirely Smile

I'll give you that too be fair, the soles on pro boots do wear out fairly quickly with a lot of constant use and abuse but they're not too expensive to replace! Smile
