I like listening to music on my mp3 player while riding but my earphones keep falling out and it’s doing my head in. Mad

I saw these Sony active headphones that have an extra bit that goes round your ear to hold them on in Tesco the other day and wondered if it could be the answer to my problems but wondered if any of you guys have tried and tested this idea already and if they are any better or worse before I buy them.

Thanks

Never wear anything but earplugs, but surely the answer would be to fit proper helmet earphones?

Depending on how tight your helmet is (no puns thanks.) You might find the ones with round-the-ear holders uncomfortable to wear. What I used to do is use the wee foam covers you get for in-ear phones. They provide just enough friction to stop them from slipping out your lug hole.

Works for me in the gym too, ears get all sweaty (I know, not attractive mental imagery.) Banging away on the treadmill causes them to fall out, but the foam covers hold them in.

Thumbs Up

I've used an intercom with the around ear type headphone, not very comfortable. I would have thought the bud type would be good, I've not tried them though.

I'm afraid I can't help with the earphone suggestions, although as pa_broon said I would think that the round ear ones would be uncomfortable under a helmet. What I was wondering was is it not quite distracting listening to an MP3 player whilst riding? I only ask as I have been wondering whether it was possible to do so or whether it would just cause too much of a distraction whilst riding?? Confused Smile

I bought the tesco ones some 8 months ago, i found them to be very comfy though the wind noise from my helmet rather made it a bit to loud to listen to music for a long time. On another note, there that comfy i use them when i need music to go to sleep with, and having the "round ear" hook, find they don't fall off very much while i sleep, as for in ear buds the only way i was able to use them is by having a full helmet liner, though these were to uncomfy for long trips on the bike. hope this helps. Thumbs Up

These are excellent.

Just dont catch the cord on the indicator while walking away from the bike and snap it. Mad

I find these sony earphones perfect. They're good quality and comfortable (up until about an hour of riding... but then start to hurt a little).

If I listen to headphones on the bike (not often) then I wear an earplug type headphones https://www.vocal-care.com/product.php?xProd=92 . Means you can listen to the music whilst physically blocking out the external sound. Probably not as good as the Seinnheiser headphones but seem to work well for me.

Do the Sennheiser actually protect your hears or do they just prevent you from hearing the noise but allow the damaging energy to enter the ear? Could be a daft question and demonstrate my ignorance of physics but would like to know the answer either way!

Duck tape LOL, you could get a different style of headphone such as below;

https://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/images/ph/philips-sports-in-ear-headphones.jpg

& The ones above are made by Philips and normally found for under a tenner Smile

I use https://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-Labs-EP-630-A-Earphones/dp/B0009G6FQI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1245276421&sr=1-1 when I'm on the bike, they're really good at blocking out noise, but I sometimes have the same problem as you in that they can fall out whilst I'm riding along. Most of the time I'm fine, but if one falls out on the m25 it's a bit annoying...

Sennheiser CX300 Ear buds. Make sure they're in a proper retail pack and you've got the best buds for the least money. Google them.

Another Thumbs Up for the sennheiser CX300's.

They're small enough the fit in your ear snugly but not stick out far enough the get caught. They also block out alot of noise making them good protection against hearing damage (assuming you aren't pumping metalica in at full volume). If you do catch the wire they just pop out too, nothong to snap, I've had mine for about three years (maybe more) and they've had some abuse. Caught the wire and pulled them out countless times, and droped them alot, but they still work prefectly.

Be aware there are loads of fakes out on ebay though. How to spot fake cx300's.

I use the Motrax Ear Plugs. They are noise cancelling and fit inside your ear. They come with different size buds for different size lugs. Thumbs Up

Cliketh Here

I used them around Scotland last year on a trip and they were excellent.

Seinheiser CX300's for me as well although I've stopped listening to music on the bike now. Just ear plugs now.

I use Tesco's own cheap sports earphones, fine while riding, great sound quality, but hurt like hell when I take my helmet off!

Those ones are almost identical to tescos own except tescos are all black, and the ear piece is bent in a way that fits snuggly in the ear too.
