As above, my gear lever seems to have excessive play in the lever when changing gear, it doesn't affect the gear change, but annoying none the less.

I've had a looksee and they see like sealed units, so i can't just un bolt them and replace as you do without buying a complete assembly.

Does anyone have any ideas on solving it, or can i get new ball joints with a bolt and just cut these ones off?

Thanks,

David.

I have no idea what yours looks like but generally you can disassemble them, its just not alway obvious. There is probably a pin stopping the ball coming out of the joint.

Easy enough to get hold of, assuming its is the same thing, its called a rose joint.

INteresting - i'll get a picture and post it up to help things.

Thanks for the site you posted, but it isn't that which has the play - it seems to be on the ball end, and more importantly where it connects to the gear selector shaft thingy (technical term).

It seems that most ball joints have a fair bit of play as standard. My new blade has fairly sloppy ball joints which is really anoying.

You could probably cut the old ones off, thread the bar and fit the new ones. The only problems you might have is the bar may be too short.

You sure it's the balljoint and not the actual lever? Suzukis are infamous for it, lot of models have a plastic bush in the lever that wears and becomes wobbly/sloppy on the shaft. Suzuki don't sell the bush on it's own you hav eto buy a whole lever assembly Evil or Very Mad
Done a GSXR600 and a Bandit for mates by replacing the knackered plastic bush with a brass one, easy enough to do if you know someone with a lathe and cheaper than a new lever.

Ichy that's exactly what i need mate. Just need to find out what size thread i need. When talking about M5 to M10, is the number the internal diamater of the threaded part that would take the gear linkage or the nut on the other side in mm?

Hi

Could be the ball joint, and sometimes they are very difficult to seperate (have this issue with my TZR250, with a decent lever having a worn out ball joint, and the bent lever having a decent ball joint).

Some have a clip with a pin that can slide out.

However also check the pin the lever pivots on.

All the best

Keith

Keith - it's definately the ball joint, more spefically the part that is actually attatched to the rear set and gear selector. Pics will follow, but i think ichy has nailed what i need. I'm bracing myself for costs.

Most Suzukis with a gear rod are M6 threaded ball joints to screw the rod into them....but....one side is right hand thread the other left hand, Bandits are lefthand on the gear lever end IIRC so possibly the same on your bike so that might well shaft you getting an aftermarket one easily. Just check your gear rod to see which end is which before you start.

Well that site seems to sell normal and left hand threaded joints, so might be OK.

David.

They should be easily able to supply either handed thread, they are used for loads of stuff other than motorbikes.

If you are making your own rod you might need to buy a LH die in the right size, I always use 6mm and get them from here https://www.tracytools.com/tapsanddiesmetric.htm
although you can get them from other places.

The size, M6 etc, is the outer diameter of the male part, the bolt bit.
