I'm surprised no one's said about it, did anyone see it?

If not you can watch it on the ITV player online when they can be arsed to put it up.

It's to do with looking at the proposals to lower the NSL limit to 50.

It seemed to be in favour of it judging by the way it was produced however I found it quite amusing that in all of the example crashes they showed everyone was going between 30 and 40, so the proposed 50 limit would have made naff all difference.

It seemed as though the only people on the program who really wanted it lower where BRAKE and they would rather we all have a man with a red flag at walking pace. Laughing

And it was a woman.

Why has she been allowed out of the kitchen?

In all seriousness the training they were offering over on the IOM seemed like a great idea.

I also see how the restrictions on new drivers could work, personally I don't think new drivers/riders need more restriction, but I do think it should be a requirement for them to take further training within 12 months of passing their test.

What a (non) suprise. Rolling Eyes

Proposal to lower the limit to 50 even though the crashes occur at less than 50...

What a joke, mind you BRAKE are a complete waste of oxygen anyway. Yea, let's listen to a gaggle of hysterical grieving mothers...

Speaking of BRAKE, copied from another forum...

I'm not entirely convinced as to the motives of this site though.

Interestingly enough, our old friends at 'Brake' are listed.

Just watching the programme just now, what's the point of it so far ?
First part is someone running from the police so makes no difference to the speed limit.
Second is some guy averaging over 100 in his Fiesta, obviously couln't care less about the limit.
Third section is a lad who died while out on his bike at 34mph on a 60mph road.

Next section was a guy overtaking on double white lines.
Then another biker who crashed at 40mph.

Round my way (Sussex) it is rare to be able to ride at the 60 limit without coming up on a queue of slower moving traffic anyway. 50 seems to be about tops. Lorries, tractors, old biddies (who slow down further if anything approaches from the opposite direction), "eco" drivers etc.

I don't really mind - I just overtake when safe of course.

But what really pisses me off is to have the same old biddies, ecos etc UP MY ARSE a bit later when I've slowed for a 30 limit. Bastards!

I don't pay much attention to the 60 limit anyway (where I judge it's safe to do so), so if they make it 50 I just wont pay much attention to that either.

I watched it and all the examples they gave were of poor driving skills that included speeding, but speeding was a symptom of the poor driver skills. No speed limit would have stopped those idiots.

they always put the poor driving standards or the criminal getting away as an example for the need to reduce speed, but the plebs would still do the same even if the speed limit was 10mph.

no matter what, once the government find a new way to ease congestion while raising taxes, like reducing all NSL to 50 and raking in the speeding fines, nothing is going to stop em.

Just remember when you vote at the next general election

Children shouldn't be running about NSL areas.

I heard something about Scotland taking charge of its own speed limits? Don't know if it's going ahead or whether it'd be a good thing or not.. I think so though as most places in Scotland aren't half as busy as places in England and I reckon speed limits could be increased.

NSL = 70mph?, Motorways = 80mph .... Bikes allowed an extra 20% on anything over 30mph?

Vote for me Laughing

That would be the min required, but too many politicians want to be seen to be doing the right thing (even if it is the wrong thing), so expect a 50mph NSL, 60mph motorway and 20% lower for vulnerable groups like bikes Crying or Very sad .

All the best

I can't remember the last time I swore so much in such a short space of time from watching something on the internet like that.

The way I see it, two things bring about better road safety - training and experience.

Agree Thumbs Up
But the problem is that the way to check the training and experience is testing, say every 5 years. Fail the test and take the vehicle off you. that will never happen because it would go against such a large amount of road users.

Probably just that bike speedos are even more laughably inaccurate than car ones. 65mph indicated could be 55mph in reality (10% +8kmh), which is within the police 10% +2mph guidelines.

All the best
