Regardless of the age of the plug, if you've been running the bike the colour of the plug will tells us if it's running rich or lean. ____________________

| steo wrote: | a black & sooty plug means its running too rich, i wouldn't think it's jetted wrong as it's only a new bike. the choke could be faulty & sticking, is it manual or automatic? you said you could only see one adjustment screw on the carb, the tickover screw? have a look again, there should be an air/mixture screw beside it. it doesn't stick out like the tickover screw & it's probably flush with the carb with a slot in it for a flat blade screwdriver. if your choke is not faulty then adjust the air screw, if you screw it into the carb till you feel it getting tight then unscrew it two turns. you should be pretty close to the right fuel/air mix. clean the sparkplug as it's fouled up & make sure your getting a nice spark. i still think you should bring the bike back to the shop & let them deal with it but i hope this helps..... |
hi there,
thanks for the reply, my bike is a skyjet sj125gy 2007 model, 4 stroke, 5 gears,
iv had it 3months but not from new as i bought it off ebay, it is in very good condition as its only done 1000 miles. it came without a spark plug and some electrical problems which i have fix, i took the carb off a min it ago and there is only 1 flathead screw on the side for high or low revs, the is another screw under the card and when i turn it , it pushes this small pin up into the carb, and i aint got a clue what that would even do, also my choke is fine,
here is my carb i just found it.
