Agreed. Brilliant programme, like all of his others.

Watching the extra one on BBC Four now specifically about the U2 flights.

Very good program, BBC are doing well tonight.

Was planning on setting up camp in front of BBC4 till the wee hours, as there is loads on, but my stupid digi box has an interupted signal for that particular channel. Evil or Very Mad

Never quite appreciated that height before, but an English Electric Lightning intercepted the U2 spy plane at just below that height in 1984, shortly after managing to get one to a height of 88,000 feet. Mr. Green

Such a cool story.

Do we know why James May gets to do all these cool things?

It seems he may move to be more popular than both Hammond (who comes across as a bit of a cock a lot these days) and Clarkson, who will always be loud mouth Clarkson.

May has that air of humility about him that makes him entirely watchable.

He did something that probably most want to do but will never get the chance to.

Is anyone still watching BBC4? The program on now is so interesting.

He made a good point when he said all folks should do it, makes all other concerns seem petty.

Thumbs Up

I agree, Hammond is an annoying cock now. He seems to be on everything on TV and his voice drives me insane. It's quite sad but I could listen to May babble on all day. He should have his own radio show.

Excellent show Thumbs Up

Lots to cram into an hour though, in a way I thought the BBC4 show just about the U2 flight was actually better than the full BBC2 one.

But I've just found the 'deleted scenes' - the interviews with Bean, Duke and Schmitt that seemed a bit short on telly - at https://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/moonlandings/

Great program.
Surprised how crap the vomit comet was though ... dont get me wrong, would love a go.... but it didnt seem that May got much 'airtime' ... he kept falling to the floor or seemed to shoot to the ceiling ... I am sure I have seen astronauts training on it where they get some proper floating around in the middle stuff (if that makes sense).

Also, the comment that "12 people made it to the moon, and there are 9 left alive" ... makes it even more exciting to be meeting Buzz Aldrin in a few weeks Smile Thumbs Up

Best bit was one of the astronauts talking about how him and his wife often sit in a car and watch the moon (as everyone does at some point in life ... I love sitting in the garden in summer with a glass or 2, and look at the moon).
BUT he then thinks to himself "I have walked on that" Shocked
Fookin awesome.

I missed the beginning, but very very glad I saw him in that spy plane...if there is a 'must do' list before you die...THAT is definitely right up there!!! Thumbs Up

FAO Astronuts:
Just seen an advert and it looks awesome:

Nasa: Triumph and Tragedy - Wed 9pm (BBC something).

Looking at what nearly and what did go wrong ... the inside story ... not just the glamour and success.

Well, if one thing could (without going in a spaceship) this might !!

102,800 feet in a helium baloon, followed by a 20mile skydive !
