I have noticed that the gear lever on my ER-5 was become quite loose i.e. it wobbles side to side. It doesn't really seem to affect the changing of gears to much but how would you go about tightening the gear lever?

Depends what you mean by loose. Is there play in the rod end ball joints? If so you need to replace the ball joints. The aren't expensive but you may have to cut the old ones off.

I have the same issue on my SRAD.

Hmmm I think we need a bit more detail about this "side-to-side" movement.

By "side-to-side", do you mean "in & out" = towards the engine / away from the engine?

This problem on ER5s is usually caused by a worn Selector Shaft = the splined shaft that the lever clamps onto.

(The ER5 has a simple one-piece gear lever clamped to a splined shaft, so no problems with rod end ball joints.)

It's not a very difficult job to change the selector shaft. I can have a look on a spare engine and write a little guide if you like. PM me if you'd like me to do this Wink

Also I've got a spare selector shaft if that turns out to be your problem.

Stefan.
