 |
|
Im pretty sure this would work fine but I would like some sort of conformation please
https://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee81/paddy2007dug/carbbalance.jpg
The two jars would be sealed air tight, as one carb creates more of a vacuum the the pressures would be un-even, and the water level in one carb would raise, then it is a case of just adjusting them untill the water level is even in both jars, make sence?
My bike is in serious need of lots of servicing so I am trying to cut costs, I could put together that lot in the diagram for less than a tenner i reckon, maybe less than a fiver
Cheers

Hi
Interesting idea and might well. Normal consideration with using water based vacuum gauges is that water is a lot lighter than mercury and hence will be drawn up a lot further by the same vacuum. With you way the vacuum drawing the water up will only be the difference in pressure (but if it does manage to draw it up then it might well hydraulic the engine).
Might be worth putting some kind of damper valve between the 2 jars to smooth out the changes in the levels.
All the best

If you want to do it on the cheap, there is already an established method that will only cost you the price of some clear tube*!!

I prefer the workings of my water/jar combo to that ebay one, plus where is the fun in buying something pre-made and tested
Not that hydrolocking the engine is something I wish to risk.
As a failsafe I could make sure that the pipe to the carbs is higher than the level of all of the water from both jars put into one jar, so even if all of the water buggered off into jar 1, the pipe to the carb would still be at a safe height.
I've written that pretty badly but i think it makes sence?

While it is pretty useless most of the time I still like to look after my brain, running around like a mad hatter doesnt sound all that appealing to me

thats what i use...
works perfectly,
but make sure that you have less than half the jar full in each,
or like me when all the water comes from one side to the other, if its more than the total amount of 1 jar, she suck up through the hose and into the engine
fun times. hehe ____________________ the humans are dead

well the amount of fluid the is being sucked up per revolution is tiny to say the least, there is no way in hell you are going to hydolock from that, i certainly didnt!!
and using oil wouldnt be a bad idea, the water flutuates very quickly and its hard to see a balance the oil would dampen the pulses from the vacumm,
dont fill more than half of each bottle and you'll never have any sort of problem, ____________________ the humans are dead
