got knocked off my blade at the weekend, all because some stupid bint drove her car with her stanav and not her eyes/head. Her nav told her she had gone wrong so she tried to make a whole new lane on the roundabout just for her. Unfortunately for me i was there and bike Vs VW Sharran you can guess the winner. So depending on what the assessor says there may be one less HRC blade on the road.

She was in complete denial that she was at fault but luckily for me there were a load of witnesses and she told the police exactly what happened without lying. They informed her she was in the wrong and she was'nt allowed to pull the move she tried and she then started to rant and rave at the coppers. she did sign her own statement though Very Happy

quick query for anyone thats been here before though, all my kit took a beating and i want it replaced as part of the claim, i dont however have the receipts still for most of it, is this a problem? i mean i have the kit you can see the damage etc....

Also the bike is an 09 reg with less than 2k miles on the clocks, if its written off will they replace it with a new one?
Just annoying to have my bike trashed in the middle of summer through no fault of my own :9

Can't really help with the questions I'm afraid, but I'm intrigued to know what exactly happened? I think a paint diagram is required...

Sounds like you made it unscathed?

With my accident i simply got prices from the shops i got the gear from then attached them to the pics of the damaged gear.

They wont just give you a new bike if its a write off they will simply pay you the market value of the bike.

Not too sure on the bike bit. My bike is a '58 and my policy says 'market value' so suspect they'd try and give you a grand less. Depreciation and all that.

When it comes to kit, I'd expect they'd tell you to replace it with kit of similar value/quality and send the receipts to the insurance company.

Make sure you keep hold of the witnesses information though, its a classic thing for middle aged women to own up at the scene, get home to see Hubby and then change their story when Hubby goes ballistic.

Watch it, and good luck! Smile

Unless your policy specifies your kit is insured, you won't get any money back on it and will have to make a compensation claim against her insurers for it and any injuries. The company will not need receipts, you just put in a claim with prices your kit sells for from where you bought it.This is what happened to me when i had an accident,it may be different now though as it was a long time ago.

Cheers guys, looking at my insurance info it states that bikes less than 6 months old will be replaced with a new bike. I told the insurance company about all the gear but i guess my best bet is to just give them a ring and ask. but i think you may be right and i'll have to make it part of the claim against her.

The thing that surprised me most about the accident is how far i travelled at such a low speed. luckily because she cut across the traffic it stopped any more cars coming up behind and squishing me.

i'll see if i can knock something up to illustrate what happened but the thing thats shit me right up is that had she hit me 2 inches to the right my leg would have taken the whole impact.

Firstly you need to get an independant solicitor on the case.

Assuming you are okay to ride then you are now entitled to a hire bike (and if not then keep your travel receipts) with costs payable by the woman's insurers.

Secondly all of your gear is entitled to be replaced like for like brand new by her insurers. I sent in web links for each of the garments damaged or scratched in the off.

Thirdly your bike will need to be asessed by an independant engineer. He will fill out a report and give a value of the wreckage and rough guide for repair. If repairable it will be sent to a garage and you are entitled to have everything that was damaged replaced with new. If it's written off you will be contacted and given an 'offer' of a sum of cash to replace your bike. If you do not agree you can fight it out using your solicitor.

Also, if written off you can buy back the wreckage (and argue about the value of this) and fix up the bike yourself.

You are completely justified in this instance to get fully compensated for your losses. Every cost associated with this crash can be claimed for and re-imbursed by the other party. The fact she admitted what she did to the coppers (same as in my case) means they have no leg to stand on. Very Happy Happy days...

Excellent info, much appreciated, been riding for ages but luckily never had an off before now so my knowledge is a little lacking.
I guess until i get a call from the assessor everythings at a bit of a stop.

Just need to try and work out how to manipulate google earth images now....

After my accident I simply went down to Hein Gericke. Told them what had happened and they sat me straight down, opened a word document and typed everything out as a quote for new kit.

I sent this off to my solicitor and received a cheque pretty quick.

advice for the gear stuff.... go find a shop that sells the gear and just ask the guy on the desk if you can have a tag to prove the price to the insurance. its not going to cost them anything so some people might do it.

Roundabout accidents most often go 50/50, so get as many witness statements as you can.

What I did with my gear is buy new stuff and send in a copy of the recipts, they paid in full and right away too.

If you have no receipts they will normally accept prices from the internet (printed adverts etc). Her insurance will replace your lid etc but they'll probably want photos of the damage. Smile

They wont replace the bike with a new one because it's 'used'.

Completely unnecessary mate. All you have to do is find the same items for sale in catalogues or online and send that in. If the helmet has been superseded etc as in my case then you can claim for the replacement model. Hein Gericke are normally good. I went in and explained the situation and they gave a quote on headed paper for replacement kit too.

In the end I just sent in hyperlinks in an e-mail, along with photos of all damaged kit.

Thumbs Up

Still waiting for the assessor to come and look at the bike but pulled it out for some photos prior to anyone taking it anywhere. To be honest in the cold light of day its no where near as bad as i thought, almost every panel has taken a hit in one way or another but it seems structurally sound with no marks on the frame.

anyway heres some pics:

Not sure its a write off tbh,
if there going to have to pay you back quite alot for the bike, or get the whole set of panels repainted or replaced which will be less than the value of the bike..

Apparently a bike with the tank gaffer taped on won't pass an MOT (don't ask how I know) Laughing

Of course not. You use a cargo net to hold the tank on, everyone knows that. Razz

I could do more damaged taking a dump on a bike Razz (Obviously not one as sexy as that!)
I can't imagine that it'll be a write off for what appears to be mostly cosmetic damage (even with Honda prices for plastics)

Had very similar damage to my 07 600rr when that went on its side. The faring seems to scuff/grind down rather than crack which is a nice touch.

I remember the rear cowl section being ~£200, big left side panel being about ~£350 and the clutch/engine casing thing being about £45.

I doubt that would be a writeoff though. Also inspect the swingarm very carefully and if that's dinted anywhere get it replaced as part of the claim as well.

Not a fan of the new Blades but that one is sex on wheels!!

I feel for you, it's not nice having to go through the rigmaroles of insurance companies!

When I had my crash at first they wanted receipts but then accepted my 'Value' of the damaged kit! Also bare in mined that if it's not a wright-off the 2nd hand value will decrease because it has been involved in an accident.

P.S.

They should really compensate you for missing a summer season of riding Wink ! With her accepting full liability it will probably take 3 months minimum, and from the sounds of it she will not go down without a fight... Bitch!
