My head bearings are on the way out, getting the old clunk-click under braking and all that. They need replacing.

My question is this: How urgent is it and what effect will worn head bearings have on the handling of the bike? There doesn't seem to be a great effect at the moment, but is it something that'll get worse?

I have ordered replacements, it's just time to get them done. Neutral

Hi

They can be adjusted so that might be all that is required. Yes it does affect the handling. And they are a bloody awful job for something that is likely to be required fairly often. Added to which I normally land up putting the bike back together to then find out the bearings are still not adjusted correctly.

All the best

Keith

Adjusting should be fairly easy.

Doing them isn't that much trouble if you've got a main stand Doh! .

It'd be best to get them sorted before Cadwell, though TBH I reckon a tighten will probably do unless you're trying to break the superssports lap times Smile.

Yes, though on the 306 I ended up getting a lightbulb/multimeter and poking at it, 'cos it was easier that way Smile.

A deal then.

Except that Yamaha routinely mount the bearings so that there is no lower surface available on them to use to knock them out. Only way to get them out is to grind a small cutaway in the frame under the bearing so that you have something for a punch to catch on.

The is the problem with both the FZ750 and the 600 Divvy (although the Divvy does have small cutways on the lower bearing there is nothing on the upper bearing).

All the best
