I'm rebuilding my Goose, and relocating the battery, but it's a huge bugger (ytx-12bs). The engine is from a dr350s (electric start) which uses the YTX-4 LBS which is tiny, which would fit perfectly under the seat (where I want to relocate it). The CCA difference in the batteries is pretty big, but what am I risking by going with a smaller battery here? Is it purely less cranks on the starter button?

Cheers,

Majik

I am not sure what a Goose is, but if the battery is the one that is meant for the motor (not the chassis), then it should provide enough oomph to start it, it should also be set up to provide enough amperage on the re-charge too ...

So I'd say its sounds fine to me Thumbs Up

The only thing you need to check is the wiring of the reg/rec unit i.e. are they both a 5 wire system?

Try it - I once had a GPZ600 that use a sealed lead-acid battery out of a fire alarm panel, complete with tiny spade terminals. It was fine for the whole time I owned the bike.

My concern about giving it a go is, with it being a bigish single, whether I'm going to have enough power to churn the thing over with the smaller battery. Ignorance rules when it comes to CCA, amps etc...

Didn't you say that the 4 was the one that was meant for the engine?

There is a good chance the DR has an automatic decompression (my KLR does) so its actually relatively easy to turn over.

If you go for a proper Yuasa (or Varta) battery, it'll give the best punch for its size. Form the ones I have had, the cheaper batterys tend to be a bit less 'meaningful' (I am sure there are exceptions).
