Evenin all. Got my AR back on the road now, and just in time for this amazing weather. All is well with it, apart from how difficult it is to get neutral. When the engines not running, it slips in not a problem, but when i'm riding, i cant find neutral at all. Its either 1st or 2nd Sad Whenever i do find neutral, its whenever i dont want it, as in when i'm accelerating off from a junction!

Tried adjusting the clutch cable, to the point of it slipping under load, but no better, and no worse.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks all!
Tom

have you tried giving the throttle a quick blip when you try for neutral, worked for me on my 400, which was a pig.

Yeah, check it every 100 miles. Its a new chain and sprocket, so i'm not being anal!

Will try it when i'm out tomorrow.

Its annoying because if i pull over and stop for any reason, i have to turn the engine off if i need both hands for something Sad

Apparently my type of Gixxer suffers from this (although I've not experienced it yet)

The word on the street says that replacing the clutch plates tends to solve the problem instantly.

thought about that, and it is only £22 for a full set, but 1)clutch doesnt slip, and accelerates brilliantly, and 2)thats £22 less for my R6 Sad

well it's £22 or getting your fingers really dirty by checking for shift drum or selector fork problems.

In any case you should really get the cover off and check that the clutch basket isn't loose or worn.

thats what i first thought. Had the casing off, and checked selector forks, clutch housing etc. All seem true and tight. I went through all the gears by hand, and selects fine, its just when the engines running. I would assume sticky clutch, because when i put it into first from neutral at idle speed, unless i blip the throttle, it stalls the bike

The only thing i did notice is a scoring on the clutch basket, only on 1 section. It was radial, as in its scored whilst rotating, but there is NO filings in the oil, and NO damage to the casing! Must of been rectified by previous owner!

Ok, problem solved. Drained the oil today, to find it tinted with metal filings, and clutch plate dust. Stripped the clutch out, and no major damage. just a scuff here and there.

Scrubbed clutch plates with hot soapy water, and rebuild moving the frictionplates, replaced casing and filled up with halfrauds cheepo oil.

Bike runs amazing! neutral easy to find now, no more slipping, quieter gearbox etc etc
