Am having some trouble with my Renault Megane keycard(have to mess about with it and jam it down to get it to register) and sometimes takes 20 mins to get it started, obviously it's p1ssing me off and all Renault will tell me is I need a new card and only they can do it,according to Autodata a new card can be programmed with diagnostic equipment, anyone know if the equipment i have can do this or is it Renault diagnostics only,i have the snap-on mt2500 which is pretty useless at the best of times and am sure it wont do it and have just recieved the new "launch" computer which seems to have far more information and programmes however as it's still new to me i don't know exactly what it can and can't do,should be recieving my new card in a couple of days so any info beforehand would be great

I'd suggest posting this to the workshop section as you'll probably get a much better response. Just watch out for all the kids spouting crap just for the karma.

Renault forum says only dealers can, but suspect some of the crooks on ebay have the clip computers and may be able to, but its a huge risk to take letting a stranger get all the details as he could replicate it and come steal your car at a later date?

There are several legit firms online claim they can do it but it will take about a week to be done, which is what renault are saying only renault charge twice as much

He'd be doing me a favour

It's completely f****d now so had to bite the bullet and go to Renault, they then told me to go home and fetch my licence or passport or they couldn't do it,after telling me on the phone i'd only need the log book, then sent me to fetch the missus with her I.D as it's her car and her name on the book, then charged me £180 and told me the card will be here in about a week, and to top it off,the cars stuck in toys r us car park as without the card working the auto handbrake and steering lock wont release!

You can release the auto handbrake by releasing the mechanism in the boot. It's a red T-piece hadle that you simply pull up and it release the brake shoes. When you start and stop the car again it resets automatically Wink

Steering lock I'm not so sure of Rolling Eyes

It's not just the battery playing up is it Thinking

On the car or in the keycard?changed the keycard one and the car ones fine,it worked for a week by jamming the card down from the top but then it packed up altogether
