2 months ago I got stopped at 58 in a 30 (not as twattish as that may sound), got myself 3 points and a £60 fine.

Been waiting to get my licence back since, and it turned up last week with a letter. Opened it up thinking it would be a ticking off and dont do it again etc., turns out they've cancelled the notice and I'm getting a refund!

How the hell could this happen? I was pretty happy just to take the 3 points and be done with, seeing as I knew I was in the wrong.

Is it possible that a lot of people complained and they'd have to throw it out? They were hidden up with no signs to say there was a mobile camera, and it drops from a 60 to a 30 for no real reason, so they probably knew they'd catch people out.

Either way, welcome back clean licence, Very Happy.

This has happened to a couple of mates over the years. With them what happened was that the camera used to catch them was checked and found to be slightly out of calibration, so everyone who was done with that camera gets let off, even if they are guilty.
Sometimes the system does work and you have the proof.

Letter said:

"In this case we have decided to be lenient and the notice has been cancelled. If you have already paid the fine you will receive a refund in due course".

Then at the bottom it reads:

"Please be aware that any re-occurence of this nature would be viewed entirely differently"

My licence was in there exactly as I gave it to them at the station, cant see that they can try and do me again can they?

Under UK law I don't think you can be tried for the same offence twice......although that's criminal IIRC isn't speeding a civil offence?

My fucking arse. Translated that means the scum have been caught out doing something illegal. They wouldn't know the meaning of the word "lenient" if it was tattooed across their fucking heads. Nor "moral" or "fair".

Pretty much what I thought. Didn't think that 58 in a 30 would ever be seen as a case where they could be lenient under any circumstances.

I'm highly cynical of the authenticity of that letter tbh. Scan?

Are you from Lancashire? They had to cancel a shedload of tickets due to an "administrative" error.

T'was on the BBC website not long ago.

I think "double jeopardy" was done away with 3 or 4 years ago after about 800 years !

D'oh! Well in that case, as Hetzer has pointed out, 'scum', 'degenerate filth' etc, etc.
