Hi.

I'm going to do the baggie/elastic band technique to lube my clutch cable.

My question is that is it ok to use 10w40 engine oil or will the cable be dry within a week?

Should be fine, anything is better than leaving it dry. I use 3in1 and it keeps it nice and greasy. Thumbs Up

Hi

Depends on the cable. Many cables have nylon liners which expand with oil, so making the cable stiffer.

i would go with some thicker oil, normal oil will not last, would personally try some lithium grease...

Also how does one lube the throttle cable? Do you need to undo the housing on the bars?

takes about 10 minutes for the oil to go right through but it works great

As for the throttle cable, you do need to remove the housing to lubricate it (or at least you do need to on my CG). I'm sure you could do the baggie technique for the throttle cable too.

Nor me, was told not to years ago by a techie that had come across the prblem . . . . But then again I have never needed to oil one.
