I am LOVING the roll out of these bad boys around the motorway network.

Is there anything more satisfying than continuing at a sensible motorway speed whilst everyone else is forced to grind along at 50.

Cool

just thought I'd share

yes, they point forward - there is no forward number plate.

There is no way they could work. Rolling Eyes

(Plus I would have about 40 tickets by now if they did lol)

a) how can I "set them off"? they work on plates not small speedy blue objects Rolling Eyes
b) how could they trace me from looking at a picture of the front of my bike....
c) how do you get up in the morning without hurting yourself?

Bike
Helmet
Leathers

All can be identified as you in theory especially if its the same time each and every day on the same route. Only takes one car with your picture sitting at the road side...

You obviously have some issues you need sorting, mainly a attitude issue,
Your still going to set the camera off it just takes a front shot of you, like normal cameras, and calculated the average speed upon the set of them.
They can trace you with bike, leathers, helmet, rough description of your build etc, as i said in mcn people have been traced back for going through cameras exactly the same, they hire specialists to look at the photos and get anything to narrow it down i think one of the things they picked up on with the person who got caught was a bolt missing on his screen.
And to C, i was going to ask you the same if youve been speeding through cameras with a chain and sprocket set in such a state like in the workshop thread then your either a stupid cunt or have a death wish.

Seriously?? Have you any idea how much police time that would take, I'm on a pretty common bike, in an Arai, Alpinestars and draggin Jeans - It would take a HUGE police effort to trace you from that.

And I dont have a regular motorway route.

They find you, punish you in the media and yes, it makes it worthwhile for them as it puts the shitters up everyone else that thinks that they can disregard traffic laws as you do.

Oh and by the way, shoooting through the same speed traffic will only highlight your speeding to any officer marked or unmarked on your travels.

not true, they do not work based on image recognition, only plates - they would not know an unidentified object had gone from a to B at too high a speed as they cannot recognise it as the same thing - therfore would not even be flagged for human viewing.

rubbish, see my post above - no chance, sounds like an urban myth in the making to me

Thats the same argument for never speeding, if you're gonna do 90 on the motorway anyway whats the difference between doing 70 in a 50 through roadworks provided it's not congested?

We have had average speed cameras in Northampton for ages and every day i would go 70-80 in the 50 - never got flashed once, i dont think they pick up on bikes because they are smaller maybe? unlike the normal speed cameras that give you a satisfying purple flash Very Happy

Its true, they catch you in the end,

My old village as a speed camera at the bottom of the hill, i would go down the hill on the way to work 40-50 and cause it to flash and on my way home from work i would go 30 up the hill to stop it flashing me.... did this for about a month then one day the turned the camera around - GUTTED got a fine and 3 points

Were you on the wrong side of the road?
Because I have never seen a forward facing camrea with flash, they are not allowed.

The forward facing cameras on the A339 flash apparently because my sister got caught by it in her car. Never been on when I have been through it on the bike.

No, you're wrong. Speeding definitely kills, that's what the Govt stats say, and they'd never be wrong, because there's absolutely no way they'd dream up such a thing to warrant sticking a camera up every 500 yards and generating revenue. That just wouldn't happen, it'd never get through, one of those honest chaps in Parliament would do something about it

It won't be long before they modify average speed cameras to look at rear number plates, or until they force us all to have front numberplates...

pretty sure the last set of average speed (specs) cameras i went through on the M1/A1 used a mix of forward and rear facing to catch all road users.

forward facings cameras are different, they use infared flashs

Yeah, the forward facing ones use an infra-red flash and there's a piezo strip embedded in the road, just before the 3 lines that sets them off if one goes too fast.

The Specs cameras are just posh anpr cameras hooked up to a computer to work out lots of average speeds. They work in pairs but can also work as a whole throughout the zones.

The 2 lenses each side are really high powered infra-red floodligts meant to illuminate numberplates at night.

If any speeders are found, it's flagged for someone to look at the footage.

According to google...

I'm sure the dedicated motorway CCTV cameras can be used to get the plates of bikes if they really wanted to. Next time you go through roadworks, have a look at all the CCTV cameras.

They do indeed

https://www.speedcam.co.uk/gatso6.htm

Im not 100% sure but Northamptonshire was one of the first places to start rolling out seppd cameras in large quantity about 5-6 years ago as a trial area.

SPECS doesn't work like that.

It's the same principle as those new automatic car-park detection systems to limit a 2hr stay. They record the number plate using letter recognition software, then record again when you leave. From this they get two times. If no plate, no record.

(By the way to get around parking more than 2hrs in the car parks described just exit the carpark with a bag covering the car's rear plate - then remove around the corner. Wink )
