Peugeot Speedfight 100 Spark Plug Problems

So basically, I have a Peugeot Speedfight 100cc Moped 08 Plate. It's always been a fucking hassle. Not so long ago my bike randomly cut out, I had been riding it normally and so on, I didn't have a clue what was wrong with it but then I looked at the spark plug and it was covered in this black shit. So I thought ok I'll buy a new spark plug and stick it in, I did, and it worked great!

..For about a week. Same thing happened, it cut out, out of the blue, I looked at the spark plug and it was covered in black shit. I've gone through about 20 B8/9ES spark plugs in the last few months as I can't afford to take it to a garage and get it fixed.

I've heard there could be a crack in the gasket? Whatever one of those is, I think the guy was just trying to act like he knew what he was on about.

The most probably diagnosis I've heard is that it's running rich, this was my first thought as the spark plugs are wet when I pull them out. I thought it could be flooding it with petrol so I put a lighter to the wet spark plug and not much happened, so I'm thinking it's oil. I only just noticed an increase in buying my 2 stroke oil, I don't buy cheap oil either. I got the oil light on yesterday after about 2 weeks from filling it up to the brim with oil.


Anyway, I don't know much at all about moped engines, I know the very basics. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if it actually is running rich on oil? and if so, how can I altar the rate of oil getting swigged by my moped? and if not, what is wrong with it?

Black in a sooty kinda way??? If so it's running rich. Has it got a choke? If it has it could be sticking on and richening the mixture.

Mixture all wrong mate its either as Yen said choke stuck or your carb is not set up properly and the fact you using too much oil tell tale either pump leaking it straight into cylinder or the mix wrong if it was gasket you would be losing power and air leaking in would make mix weak so you would get a spotty plug (on Insulator white part) not black and sooty that indicates rich mix.

Like alains said try that plug its an Iridium they make a hotter spark but are more efficiant than a normal plug but to save it doing again take it back to dealer and get mix checked out and carb incase its fooked cause it should still be under warranty i would think.

well if it's black and sooty, its running too rich, first thing to check is if the air filter is clogged before you go start messing with the carb.

Also check for correct oil pump operation.

I know it's running rich, it has nothing to do with the air filter and the carb is fine.

What is correct oil pump operation?

I'm ordering one of those BR9eix's

If what you're saying, that I should fill up my oil before the light even starts flickering was true, why is there a light? I figured there would be logic on this forum :l

Might as well say this, don't know if you'll have the skills to carry it out though.

1. Remove air box and filter
2. Clean filter
3. Check box and inlet stubs for cracks and leaks
4. Reassamble
5. Go buy yourself a gunson colortune from halfrauds
6. Read the instructions
7. Use it
8. Set idle mixture accordinly, if its running over-rich at higher RPMs strip carb, clean, check float height.
9. Re-do colortune, if still running over-rich consider re-jectting.

Thanks for your help Tim, I only recently cleaned the air filter and I was thinking of putting one of those malossi? air filters on it.

I'll work on the rest asap

If you fit one of those malossi sponge filters then everytime it rains it will become........er a sponge, get soaked & the scoot won't run properly.

My mate has a malossi filter and it seems to work fine for him :\
