SEEKING ADVISE ON DODGY MECHANICAL WORK

Hi ,

This is a bit intense for my first post .

Okay here goes , we have recently had some problems with work completed at a local dealership. We were invoiced for a 12,000 service and because they were unable to find the fault with the bike the cost was "reduced " as a good will gesture.

We took the bike to a different mechanic who found the fault in 3 hours . unfortunatly a major one . He took pictures all the way through his work and stated that due to the corrosion on the nuts on the top end there was no way that the cover had been taken off in the last few months .

This is contradictory to the work the first garage has done. Apparently they had the bike in bits , yet failed to notice that the throttle bodies are worn and the PTC ? is on its way out.

The first garage failed to find the fault , yet let my husband ride the bike home in an unsafe condition. It cut out on a busy dual carriage way then tried to spit him off on the motorway.

I need advise now where we stand with the law on this one , trading standards and consumer direct are being consulted at the moment , it has now cost us extra to find out the problem, which if found earlier may have been prevented more wear and my husband would not have to have bought a new bike.

Please help they didnt do the work they billed us for and we paid for the pleasure

Is the guy that found the fault willing to make a statement?
I had this type of trouble with a friend's car last year, the guy I took it to found the problem and sorted it but would not go to court.

he took pictures and is prepared to give a proffessional opinion if needed . Im presuming he would go to court if asked. I cant belive how down to earth the second mechanic is , hes just salt of the earth

Simple.....

Go back to dealership with all the evidence and ask to speak to workshop manager.
I would also find out just what work is involved in the 12K service. It may not require the top end being taken off.
Sounds like they have only tried to find the fault as part of the service and not activly gone looking to resolve.

It will depend on how you asked them to approach the problem. You may have said that it has X problem ( You have not mentioned what this is anyway ) and they said that they would see if they can find it as part of the service.
Or you asked them activly to try and fix the problem on top of the service.

The fact your husband rode the bike home after the garage informed him they had not found/fixed the fault is HIS fault, not theirs....
Hats off to them for admitting that and not saying, that they think they had fixed it.
People have to take responsibility for their own actions. He knew it was not fixed and what it could cause, as it must have done it in the past, for the problem to be reported to them. Yet still decided to ride the bike.
