 |
|
Earlier today I had my module 1 and module 2 test and as the title suggests, I kinda failed the second part. Still I thought I'd do a bit of a writeup, maybe it helps someone:
I was really stressed about doing the first part of the new test, but it's not that hard at all. (ofc I've to say it as I passed it..) A few tips that helped me getting it done nicely:
Manual handling: When I was asked to wheel the bike backwards, I found it a LOT easier, with me being on the inside of the turn. You can also change the way you hold on to the bike anytime - as long as you don't loose balance - without any problems.
You don't have to put the bike on the centre stand, it's enough if you use the side stand.
Slalom/ Figure of eight: The slalom should be fairly simple for most people as the gap between the cones is big enough. Just try not to focus on the cones, and it should be fine.
The figure of eight was something I was really afraid of (and I mean REALLY) but than I realized I don't have to prove how good I am and I don't have to do it that tight. On the test, you can use as much space as you want, so make it as wide as you want, which should make it quite easy.
Hazard avoidance: I don't think if it's that bad to be honest. If you make sure you're up to speed, the swerving itself is next to nothing. Once you hit the speed trap, just make sure you roll off the throttle (on a big bike, stay in 2nd gear, the engine braking helps a lot), swerve away THEN brake! Don't brake before getting back up to a straight line, there's no need for it (there's more than enough room to stop, even in wet) and it just makes it dangerous.
U-Turn: This became really easy with the new test, just make sure you do your lifesaver before you commit yourself to the turn and that's it.
Slow control: Nothing really to say about this one, just stay behind / next to the guy and it's done. Keep the revs up, control the speed with the clutch and cover the back brake in case you need to slow down a bit.
Emergency stop: Speed up, brake, don't lock it or fall off .
Also, during the whole test, do check before you move off. Even when it's just the manual handling, look around, before you start wheeling the bike.
The whole thing takes like 10-15minutes, so it's not too bad I think. Doing all this in a huge, spacious car park makes it a lot easier too as you don't have to worry about cars, pedestrians, kerbs, etc..
So that's it for mod 1, in case you're interested, I failed my module 2 because I pulled out at a roundabout in a way that wasn't acceptable.
Basically I was coming up to a 2 lane roundabout, taking the exit to the left, with a car on the inside, indicating right. I looked at the driver, at the car's front wheel and saw that it wasn't going to pull outside, so I went for it, when the car's front wheel was just about in one line with me -> fail, I should have waited one more second untill it completely passes me.
It happened one minute before we got back to the test centre and I didn't cross the car's path or made him slow down, but as I 'trusted the indicator' I failed.

Unlucky pal. Glad to see you're putting straight back in for it. As you passed Mod 1 pretty comfortably it's clear you're a competent rider. I think it's just the nerves that make people make mistakes. Learn from this mistake and make sure you don't do it next time!
I passed my module 1 yesterday and got my mod 2 in July. I'm actually really looking forward to it. I just need to get my observations and use of indicator sorted out. (I constantly forget to cancel my indicators! ) |

Crap I don't think there is, you are required by law a minimum of ten days. To be honest you're quite lucky if u can rebook after ten days, i had to wait 3 weeks for the second attempt and 20 days for third so i wouldn't complain about ten days. Good job you're re-booking it. You have not failed u just didn't get it this time. Good luck next time |

If you fail one of the mods you don't have to resit both? They're completely separate like a theory test for example?
Been a while since I passed my test so I have no idea. |

I passed my mod 1 today, and snomag's advice really helped. I wanted to add a couple of extra points that helped me:
Hazard avoidance
Don't come off the throttle before you go through the speed trap (which I kept doing as I was practicing, and I lost speed too fast). Keep it quick in second gear and let off the throttle once you go through the speed trap. Remember to do your shoulder checks once you have stopped in the box after the swerve.
If you don't go through fast enough and you're asked to do it again, my instructor told me that you are allowed to ask the examiner how fast you were going, to give you a better idea for the second go - so if you were only 1 or 2mph off, you know you don't need to cane it and make that swerve harder on yourself. (Might be worth double checking this with your own instructor.)
As snomag said: | Quote: | "check before you move off. Even when it's just the manual handling, look around, before you start wheeling the bike." |
Yes! Look around before every start and after every stop.
By the way - I'm no expert, but these tips worked for me - if your instructor tells you different, then best to listen to them.
Mod 2 for me will be in a week - was gonna do it this week but decided to rest a bit and get some more road work in by myself. |

Just come back from module 2 and I failed. I failed because I was going slightly too fast in a 20mph zone (I didn't realise it was a 20 until it was too late, my fault really as I should have familiarised myself with the routes more)
It was 5 minutes into my test and the examiner told me to slow down. When she said that I knew I had failed and just wanted to go back to the test center . I also got 2 minors for signals. Going to book a resit for 10 days time though.
Needless to say I am pretty gutted as I was going to buy an SV tomorrow. |

Unlucky mate, i failed my test on the exact same thing, the examiner didn't say anything though which made it even worse back at the test center as i was expecting a pass...passed third time, dont give up. Book a resit asap. Good luck think about how much you want that SV |

Yay!
After having a 2weeks long holiday, I came back and got the second part of the test done. I'm pretty happy at the moment, but I can still hardly believe I got it.
When the examined started saying 'I am pleased to...' an amazinly weird grin appeared on my face, which's still there.
Think I'm going to have a few beers now to celebrate . |
