husky 610 wont start

Hi

i had to replace 1 exhaust end can on my 2000 husky 610sm, i did this last night.

it hadnt been started for about 2 weeks prior to this. it started immediately afterwards but only ran for about 30 seconds then stopped and wouldnt start.

i havent had it long but it had always started ok up until this point. note the previous owner said i always had to stick to a set routine to start it i.e. choke only when cold (no revs), then when warm no choke and no throttle, possibly a blip of throttle when warm.

the exhaust i put on last night had no baffles in it, the 1 it replaced did have baffles in it, i dont know if this makes any difference? note the 1 it replaced had a 3 inch gash/hole in it and it still started ok in this state.

ive tried bump starting it but no luck. ive had no luck with this bike, crashed it, fixed it (or not!), now it wont start.

any help would be appreciated before i burn it.

if anyone's local to me (chester) i would pay their fuel plus drink money to help me sort it (i have little mechanical experience and few tools), or if you need anything doing to your/whoever's pc/laptop im your man, thats my dayjob.

failing that if someone can point me in the right direction of an online manual or quick run down on how to remove the spark plug to check if its fooked/fouled etc would be great and i'll buy meself some tools, cheers.

yes deffo fuel in the tank, not alot but atleast a few £ worth... the fuel tap was on reserve.

i put in another £5 worth an hour ago (it's now full), after a few clicks with the electric start it started, ran for about 10 secs, then stopped. wouldnt start again after that Crying or Very sad

i wouldnt have thought leaving it for 2 weeks would have somehow done this? thats why im thinking replacing the end pipe with a baffle-less one might have done something?

all this sun and my bike is an ornament Thumbs Down , gutted! can't even see the spark plug to take it out, have read via google search the plug can be got to underneath the tank (!)...

its electric and kick start, ive only tried the electric.

edited to add: if its somehow got shitty fuel in it or the fuel has gone off/clogged something up after being parked for a whole 2 weeks Rolling Eyes , would a tow help out? my brother is round later, im considering getting him to tow me. obviously such things (towing a bike) are not without risk but if its worth a shot i will try it. worth doing?

my bro is here now, we're gona try towing it later on this afternoon... if that fails i will try taking the tank off/fuel pipe to the carb to see if petrol comes out as you suggest... hopefully then i can see enough of the sparkplug to remove it!

how come bikes are so temperamental compared to cars when they're left for a short time!!!!

towing it probably wont work if theres no fuel getting through, try that first, itl only take 5 mins.


good call, will do that 1st just to check...

can you tell im averse to anything mechanical Embarassed i.e. i will try most anything 1st before i get my hands dirty..... and i go and buy a fookin bike not exactly known for its reliability/longevity Rolling Eyes .

Mr. Green the day end is ending happily for a change...

took the fuel pipe off the carb... you're right fuel pissed everywhere Mr. Green ...

so knowing fuel is getting through, we took my bike to a quiet long stretch of road nearby, towed it one way (about 2/3 miles), it didnt wana know...

stopped at the top admitting defeat, very gutted at this point. obviously wasnt going to push it back, agreed to tow it. on the way back i noticed my bro was going a little bit quicker in his car so tried it again.... after about 5 seconds it literally sputtered into life, quite a few bangs and misfires, then ran ok!

been out on it today done about 40 mile, hammered it a bit. it deffo needs a service... but it's starting ok, ticking over ok if not spot on (doesnt stall or anything tho'), and pulling well Thumbs Up .

i forgive the bike lol cos fair do's it alot fun, didnt go over 80mph but several times i found myself just laughing when i was riding it Mr. Green

cheers for the input chri5 karma given. deffo gona start it everyday (have no choice soon as my car is going - bike will be the only form of transport), service asap.
