Depends what your definition of "entertaining" is really...as a rule, for laning in this country you're prolly better off with a 4T IMO - they're easier to ride, don't have to be kept in the powerband to make the most of them, and will let you get away with a lot more error wise...
They're very flattering, the better choice for a novice rider, but can easily keep up, if not lead the pack, on an average trail ride on our lanes...the only time I can see them struggling is in a full on 3 hour enduro perhaps, though that'd be more down to their weight rather than power output.
Was thinking about going over to the two strokes (I love the sound, smell and powerband), and have ridden a CRM250, Gas Gas 250 and 300 recently, but just couldn't get on with them especially well. Though they were certainly fun, I'm quicker and more comfortable on my TTR250.
Small 4T trailies certainly ain't a pile of wank, they'll do anything a 2T will do without scaring the poop out of ya |

The small 4t are also a bit more sociable ... nothing is going to p1ss locals off more than a gaggle of 2t bikes 'on pipe' ... that and the rancid smell (to them) as you pass dog walkers and hikers .... also if you are keeping a 2t 'on pipe' chances are you are chewing up the terrain a fair bit more than thud thuding along on a 4t ... so a combination of all that is what gets people partitioning for Byway closure!!
Oh and yes, you can silence a 2t, yes you can unsilence a 4t, but I think most will agree, 2ts are more likely to be noisy than a small* capacity 4t.
My KLR with stock exhaust is in no way antisocial!!
*some of the big ones are noisy as ... well it is a big old bang in - say a 600cc single!! ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |
