I have a Suzuki 50cc moped, anyway I was riding and suddenly it just slowed down n cut out i then tried to start it backup and it just wouldn't start at all so i then tried to kick-start it and found that the kick start leaver was completely stiff and just wouldn't move! does anyone know what the possible fault could be?

Doesn't sound good, sounds like it might be seized. Was there still oil in it when it stopped?

chances are your engine has eaten its rings, so its rebuild time.

To pay a garage to do the work you're looking at about £300-500.

I remember seizing my old honda cm125; didn't realise why wheel had locked up, Started it up again and did another 60 miles home; The engine was "dry" by the time I got home and not longer after (about another week of riding with no oil) I started getting white smoke; geez that engine was indestructable.

I spent an afternoon stripping down the engine, cleaned up the heads, cylinders and replaced rings and she was good as new! There was always a little white smoke afterwards but I guess that's due to the cylinders being a bit wider than before - it also used to eat through 4 litres of oil a week but it got me from A to B :-p.

well i phoned the garage and explained the problem and they seemed to think it could be the belts jammed which is what i thought even though I know fuckall about motorcycles, I thought this because when it was stopping i could hear something jamming and my back tire slowing down way before my front.

I think the garage might be right, it could just be the case that your drive belt has snapped and wrapped itself around the front drive pulley (variator).
It's a cheap enough fix, probably an hours labour plus parts provided the variator & clutch aren't damaged. The shop may also recommend new rollers also, don't be alarmed as these are not expensive.

If that had happened he wouldn't have felt the rear wheel slowing down.

I agree with you but if i've learned anything on these bike workshop forums is trying to understand what the punter is explaining especially if they know bugger all about bikes. 'The rear wheel slowing down' & I may well be wrong but I wudda taken that as a loss of drive & not a seizure.
Another reason why I suspected a broken belt wrapped around the variator is, the poster didn't let it run outta oil. More often than not with a 2 stroke, especially a scooter will free itself after a seizure when it cools down & should be able to kick it again.

Then why did you say it? Confused

I'm still going to put my money on a seizure, especially due to that fact that the kick start is solid and the rear wheel was slowing down.

Just because it had oil in the tank it doesn't mean it hasn't seized. The oil pump could have failed or the engine could have overheated.

As people keep saying, get the transmission cover off and have a look at that first.

Then why did you say it? Confused. I agree with you in so far as you maybe right about an engine seizure, however I rule nothing out including my own prognosis.
As I can't physically inspect the poster's bike, I like the rest of you can only offer an opinion & an educated guess. I may not be right but I offer it on what the poster said in his complaint plus my own experience of similar problems I've had with scoots.
At the end of the day it's up to the punter what they want to do with the information folks post on their thread & if they get their bike fixed without costing a fortune because of it then it's a result for everyone concerned.
