Quote:
Optometrist Guy Marshall, 53, who has received first aid training, got out of his car to help at the scene of the crash near his home in Orford.

It was then he realised his son Thomas, 18, had been involved in a collision with a Mazda MX-5 while riding a Suzuki GS 500cc motorcycle.

He administered first aid and got his son breathing but Thomas later died.

What a kick in the teeth after doing the right thing and trying to help.

I hope he copes ok, that surely must be traumatic for him, that would surely flatten me, dunno how i would cope.

My thoughts are with him and the rest of the family.

Picking up the tiniest of silver linings, at least he got to hold his sone before he went, a lot of people just get the knock on the door from the police. Must be hideous to have to deal with that and I hopd the son does RIP.

Cheers

Agreed, also he knows 'nothing' could be done ... i.e. it wasn't like they got an incompetent/tired paramedic on the scene and he could have been saved if it were someone else. His son still died, but at least he knows he did all he could and as you said, he was there for him at the end! Thumbs Up

Truly terrible, bu as he said himself, very few people get the chance to hold a loved one in their last moments.

Better than dying under a hedge / in a ditch / next to a stone wall.

That's awful, nobody should have to go through that. I agree with the others, at least he got a chance to say goodbye, and at least his son wasn't alone. Hopefully he can find some peace knowing that. Poor lad, RIP.

Saw this in the paper today, the father called the driver of the car and told them he didn't blame them for the accident and invited them to the funeral which they did attend.

A truly decent bloke and such a shame he's had to go through that.

The father seems appears to be a VERY strong guy.

It took me a few seconds of watching the video to confirm whether or not it was him or someone else because he could hide his emotion so well and kept it together.

You just know he kept his cool and did everything he possibly could to try and save his son.

Crying or Very sad
