Been thinking about this recently.....it hurt.

I lived in the US from 1998 to 2003, and as such I got an IR1 visa, social security number, CA driving license etc.

Now I'm back in the UK I've just run my credit reports both in the UK and in the US and obviously they are completely different.

So - is there anything to link me to my US persona? Are there any advantages of being 2 people?

I am in the process of setting up a US mailing address and bank account - just for the hell of it, doesn't hurt to keep my credit score good over there, I've trashed my UK one Evil or Very Mad

Depends on who you ask and where there jurisdiction lies.

Credit reference agencies will probably only be allowed to hold data for you in the territory they operate in. So Experian UK probably don't know how you handled your finances in the US. And vice versa. Pretty sure they could apply to do so though if they wanted.

That said, if you did something really really bad financially (like committed fraud) then I'd imagine there's an international database for that so you'd be known everywhere.

Pretty sure that if anyone really wanted to, they could link your life in the US and the UK quite easily, especially people like the police.

So as far as there being any benefit: not really, other than maybe having a US bank account and being able to buy things only available to US citizens.

Considering when you emmigrate your credit history starts from scratch then I'd say it works both ways, your crap history here shouldn't have any affect on your US credit score, they obviously don't transfer the details.
