Been getting hacked off with the Sprint recently, cos all I've been doing is commuting to London (which only highlights how massive it is when you're trying to park the bloody thing!). So I thought a week up north would let it stretch its legs and put it back into my good books.

Up to Perth with only one stop for fuel - cushty.

On Monday I deviated from the standard 'bike touring holiday' and hired this.

Bloody lovely, even when I got caught in a downpour sans-roof. So much fun to drive and sounded godlike.

Tuesday was lucky weather day, so I did a chunk of west coast and enjoyed the sun.

Wednesday was wet but I wasn't going to sit on my arse so headed north up to John o'Groats only to find it fogged up on the way back. Lame.

Thursday was showery so I just tooled around pointing at the blue patches and trying (and failing) to stay out of the wet bits.

Back home yesterday, 600 mile drag from Inverness back to Bracknell, via a nose around Jodrell Bank. The difference between sports and sports touring bikes was made apparent by the fact that while not feeling exactly fresh as a daisy, I had no aches and pains. So, despite being the size of a London bus, Sprinty is back in favour - Scotland cures all ills.

Looks good Thumbs Up I was thinking of doing Scotland but opted for Spain for the weather side of things for my trip starting 1st July. Like can either be nice or not so, may have to get up there sometime later in the year though

Did you have much paperwork and deposits etc to hire that car then? there's someone round corner from me with something similar to that he uses it year-round.

Quite like the look of them Sprints, might look at getting one as my next one for some two up touring with the girlfriend Very Happy

£200 and flash the driving licence. No hassle at all - very nice chap at https://www.openroadhire.co.uk/ - highly recommended (if you're over 25).

Sounds like you had a nice week Miss. I'm on the hunt for my ST at the moment, not many ( any ) cheaper ones about, let alone being even semi close to where I am.
I was ready to get one from Wales but it sold over the weekend. Sad

Sprints are all good and well for sensible riding. However, push it at all, and it burns oil faster than you could pour it down a drain! lol

Slightly envious of the bike, though Triumphs don't really appeall I sometimes think a sports tourer would be more suited to what I use mine for these days.

I suffer no real pains on the Fireblade in a 4-500 mile day other than mainly my right wrist which does get quite bad and backside from the less than plush seat, think i'm just being stubborn as I don't want to get on the slippery slope to being an old man with a Pan European.

Was it £200 to hire the Caterham for a day or the deposit?

This seems like a good place to dump some of my Scotland holiday photos from last week. Just to re-enforce how crap English roads are.

Err, no they don't.

That was the cost for the day. £100 deposit up front on booking, pay the rest on the day, rates vary through the year so it's cheaper in winter and on weekdays.

Those pictures do look very appealing its just a shame that its just so far from Essex and the ride there may not be the most thrilling to say the least?

Just bang up, straightest route possible. Stick some tunes on and burn motorway. It takes less than a day, isn't particularly thrilling but then travelling to most places is a shite and painful experience - but you don't generally go places for the journey, you go for what you find when you get there.

Yorkshire upwards is quite nice to look at while you bowl along.

Well, I managed to get through 4litres in 3,500miles before issues came up.. Triumph even told me that can be quite normal! Before saying there must be something wrong with the engine, I'm on a newer engine now (seized the first), and if I push it I find myself topping up oil every other week.. Again, Triumph say it's perfectly normal!

Normal casual riding, it's fine. Still doesn't have anything on my F650 though, about a litre or two of oil in 20,000miles..
