Bearing in mind I'm talking about the time that only take up the center of the road, not the whole road...

The second option - obviously.

Who in their right mind would slow down and go over the middle of a speed bump that only covers the centre of your lane.

I don't 'swerve' to go round them, I just drift to the right of the lane to go round them, then drift back when I'm round it.

Note that you are not meant to slow down for speed bumps anyway. The idea is that you maintain a constant, lowered speed down the stretch of road where they are.

Well maybe its just me but plenty of times they've been at the top of a hill or something and i havnt seen them til the last minute so it involves slowing down quickly, or quickyly swerving out the way.

You should look further ahead then, and plan where your going.

Theres a route I sometimes take on my way home from work, if the traffic is busy. Theres a section with speed bumps that go all the way across the road.

I don't slow down for them, just stand up and stay at 30 or so mph and they aren't a problem

Don't take speed bumps too fast though as they can damage your head bearings as far as I know.

I just hit them at whatever speed I'm doing and let the suspension handle the rest.

If I'm feeling particularly energetic I'll accelerate going on to lighten the front wheel, and coming off so the back end dips with the front. Of course I normally fuck this up so instead of being smooth over the bump i'm twice as jerky.

Speed bumps are a fucking pain in the arse, and I hate them.
All they are is a danger to motorists. Common sense says that speed bumps won't slow motorists down any more than speed cameras, so all the authorities are really doing is causing a hazard.

They're also one of the leading causes of suspension damage, perhaps it's a single reason why these big fat people need their big fat 4x4s... They're a pain in the arse for ambulances and other emergency vehicles too. They seem to be everywhere in towns too. Traffic calming? pfft...

They certainly come up with inventive names, I saw a sign for "Safety Cameras" the other day, LOL Safety my arse.

there is this one sign, it says "Warning, speed cushions"
Cushions? They're lumps of tarmac! LMFAO @ cushions

They don't half come out with a load of ballcocks these days don't they.

I dont get it, they spend loads of money resurfacing roads in an attempt to make them nicer to drive on, then they intentionally put giant lumps or tarmac in the middle of the road!

I go round them, silly things. There are enough lumps and bumps in the road anyway without these added nuciances!!

Bit of both, if I can avoid them I do. Otherwise I slow down and go over them.

The things I find really annoying are the big thick yellow rumble strips they tend to put at the bottom of dual carriageways. Even at 50 - 60mph they are quite worrying, especially on a piece of road near me that undulates all over the place too.

The things start too far away from the island and if you try to slow down where they start you get dickheads sitting right on your tail. They affect the handling far too much for my liking, anything that starts to take control away from me is not good in my book.

As Robby mentioned (he obviously is a closet stunter Razz ), they make excellent wheelie launch points. Start the wheely before the back wheel comes off, then when it does come off the front lifts more as the back goes down; ideal for low power bikes.

I would be worried about anything that suggests 'bikes have priority'... as even if it is in the highway code, most of the other drivers probably won't know that.

Never heard that one myself anyway.

I think it says something more along the lines of that you can pass on either side if it is safe to do so.

There's one just outside my window, it gets on my nerves hearing all the crap bouncing about in the backs of vans and trucks, amuses me to hear the cars bottoming out though.
