what tyres?

can anyone recommend a set of tyres for a 1996 zxr750l3?
ive got dunlop d207s on at the min but the back is way past the best and the front has about 3k left in it.
i can get a new rear and make the most of the front for around £60 from d&k or a part worn one for around £15, or i could go all out and get a new set.
only road riding, nothing on track, all weathers and needs to be longish lasting.

Dunlop Roadsmarts

People slag dunlop since the D207 is the only Dunlop tyre they've ever used.

Roadsmarts have lasted me 4000 miles on the blade and barely look worn in. Very quick warm up times and a LOT of grip int he wet. Used them on my 96 ZX6R and lasted 6000 miles (sold it before i needed to change the tyres again)

They've got a nice, stable profile.

thanks for that. will the rear be compatible with a d207 front or am i best changing both?
i must admit ive always been a bit negative to dunlops, as my last 3 bikes (sv650 and two harleys) had them as standard and they were crap in the wet, but ive got to be honest i cant fault these d207s at the min, even with the shagged rear.
any ideas on prices or good places to get them fitted in the banbury/midlands area?

Err, i'd change both tyres and start fresh since I'm not sure about the profile of the D207.

I think replacing both will make the performance more noticable. I've always tried to not mismatch tyre brands/profiles etc since the feeling you get from a new set of boots will make your bike feel like new.

I buy my tyres from these guys, pretty cheap. I'm sure they fit too. Dunstable's only down the A5 from Banbury so it's worth giving them a shout. Otherwise, order from them and get them fitted locally?

I had 207s on my cbr when i bought it. Thought they were ok as it was first bike, first tyres i'd used. Swapped for Pirelli Diablos. On reflection the 207s were toss, really rate the diablos.

Ive never used Roadsmarts, but ive just done Donington on the the Qualifier 2's and i cant fault them.
Feel really nice on the road too, but as of yet i have no idea how durable they are.

beatnick, what bike are you running the quali II's on? I bought the roadsmarts purely because I loved the profile of the Quali's. Did you ever used to run the D209 Qualis?

Im using them on my Speed Four.
Never used Dunlops before, always been a Bridgestone fan, but i was given the tyres and a trackday gratis so it would have been rude to refuse really

So far im really liking them on the road, they turn sweetly and give tons of feedback.
If the Roadsmarts are anywhere near as good i'll be putting some of them on for winter

Roadsmarts are excellent in winter! I had 020's during winter and 014's during winter and I had to be very very steady on them. Roadsmarts give a LOT of feedback and many people would argue that the Roadsmarts are more than a match for the PR2's. Mags totally love the roadsmarts. I know for sure it's good in winter since I've had them on 2 bikes during that period.
