Good work.

Having lived in a country where there is zero history, I now appreciate what we have so much more. You are quite right to report it, I mean it's not as if the purchaser will be short of a few quid if they can afford to buy a place like that in the 1st place. They would have known what they are getting into, and should not have gone ahead with the 'development' without permission.

If permission was granted for UPVC windaaaaz, then questions should be asked of the planners, and how big the bribe was they took.

Nice one. Thumbs Up

Too much of our history is lost and hopefully these new residents will get a nasty bill to rectify the windows. Twisted Evil

Keep us informed Thumbs Up

Totally the right thing to do. Hope they get asses kicked and forced to put the old ones back in.

It might help the cause if you could get a few more people to complain too. Maybe contact the local press, they like this sort of stuff on slow news days.

I can see why you did what you did, and if they are genuinely property developers or similar, trying to make money at the expense of wrecking an old building. Then fair enough.

But permit me to say, generally I disagree.

I dislike the practice of people sticking their beak into the business of others, particularly regarding property, just because of 'not in my back yard' type stuff as this. Essentially ruined your view slightly on the way to the pub. It doesn't really concern you.

I don't have a particular fascination or appreciation of architecture such that a building - unless obviously spectacular - would stop me in my tracks. I'm more one for practicalities.

Wooden windows of any sort are a severe ball ache from a maintenance point of view, you have to keep on top of them, and if you can't afford to pay someone to do it, that means you have to do it yourself, and its super tedious. Tasteful plastic/PVC windows are not unheard of, you just have to pay a bit more for them.

Houses are for living in, you can probably find a sash window museum somewhere in the UK if that's your thing Wink .

Shuuunnnnn!! Shun the unbelievers!! Wink

Thing is, if it's not historically protected, then paint your house pink and green if you want. But take away these historic buildings protection and we'll end up living in a country where they've all been turned into Starbucks and MacDonalds, or bought up by developers and replaced with something more economically viable, like a car park or something.

I want to live in a country that has tangible, physical history that I can experience by walking around all our lovely old villages and see what someone 100 years ago saw. Old buildings are generally much more interesting and fascinating than their modern equivalent.

It's all part of our heritage as a nation, and needs protection, or we'll live in a country that is generic everywhere, and has nothing but photographs and memories as it's history.

It might not seem that important, and I doubt I could ever convince either of you philistines that it is.... but it is. Very Happy

Yeah I agree, good on you!!! Too much has been trashed by the '60s and '70s version of modern, we should preserve what we've got left!!!

It possibly does if he's a property owner though. The value of a property is essentially set by the demand from potential buyers. The attractiveness of the local area is one of the factors affecting the demand for property. By making the pub less attractive the owners are contributing, albeit in a small but noticeable way, to the decline in the desirability of the area for potential purchasers, thus a decline in house prices. </Daily Mail Mode!>

People who buy listed buildings do so with full knowledge that they have a responsibility to maintain them in a particular manner.

Or Starbucks and McDonalds will be the only ones able to buy the listed buildings because they can afford the repair-work bills for the windows Wink.

Was this house, I wonder, just from one era, or infact were the windows older wooden windows, but from a much more recent era than the house?

Also; think of the environments; several cute kittens were probably burnt every day to just to dissipate heat through those old wooden windows Smile.

Saying that, presumably the owners were aware of the status of the house when it was bought.

In the future at some point I'm sure there'll be preservation orders on houses with uPVC style windows, as so few remain and people moaning about how there's so little of the past left as all this force-field windows are taking over, or whatever.

Surely when you buy (even view) a listed property you are made fully aware of the fact it's listed and the rules and regulations that come with that.

So with that in mind, fcuk 'em.

But you're still a grass.

Very Happy
