Well I love my little NC30 even if it isnt the best example there is.
It teaches you everything you need to know about riding a bike without ever scaring you too much!
0-60 times will never set the world on fire because the first gear is so long (will get to around 55 in first) but is still a reasonable 4.5 seconds ish.
standing quarter miles ae usually quated for around 12.6 seconds and top speed is around 135mph.
The ZXR400 is a quicker bike but because of the V-four set up the VFR is more convenient to use with more low down torque (apparently, although I havent ridden a ZXR yet).

I have found my VFR a great step up from my NSR and have no plans to get rid yet. Buy yourself one and enjoy, just look at how many honda V4 owners there are on here now, we cant all be wrong!!

As Stew said, the Honda NCs offer hooligan performance in a gentle package...the power delivery throughout the gears is fairly linear, and there aren't any nasty surprises!...if you're lazy b@stard, and don't really want to wind the throttle each time, then get a bigger bike!...otherwise, the NC is very fast and very fun!
