Do police bother with numberplates, visors, exhausts?

I attended a Bike Safe with a tinted visor, unbaffled exhaust and slightly smaller than legal number plate I was told that unless I was being a nuisance that I would not be pulled over specifically for these. If they can read the number plate at the legal distance they will be happy, the exhaust caused no concern and was and I quote 'sexy' and as long as I don't wear the tinted visor dusk or dark that's fine too.

Depends on the individual and the Force guidelines I believe, so I'm unlikely to leave Dorset!!

Yes they do bother sometimes. Gives them a perfect excuse to pull you over for a "routine check", and not unknown for them to just pull up all bikes and check for the easy nicks like that.

Agree with Kickstart. I have seen the Police revenue collecting at bike meets for exhausts and number plates.

I have no baffle and wear tinted visor but number plate is legal. The number plate is the biggest puller for me.

well my numberplate is 8" long 2" height with scroll font.
exhaust is a scorpion without any baffles.
the stig helmet - simpson bandit (which isnt road legal) with a blacked out smoke visor.

so the visor as long as i leave it up at night i'm fine?
exhaust is alright?
numberplate depends on the copper?

In wales they were pulling every biker. (apart from the obvious christian bikers) and slapping tickets on for number plates (£60) tinted visors (£30) and checking out exhausts. Welsh police for you though hey. They got £150 out of me and two mates..

The biggest thing with number plates is so that the police revenue machines, sorry speed cameras, can read them which is why you are far more likely to get pulled for that than anything else.

If they get really awkward they can stop you riding unless you have a clear visor to fit

If they get really really awkward and notice the helmet they can do the same unless you have a spare helmet

I always have my clear visor with me at all times, just in case.

my mate jamie got pulled with a tinted visor on at night... even though he had it up the cop said... "if its on the helmet your using it" so he got a £30 fine. Then the cop said you'll have to push it home because you cant ride with the visor. he was nowhere near home so took it off and tucked it in his jacket...

then the cop said.. yeah but youll get a mile up the road and put it on again...

this went back and forward for a couple of minutes so my mate cracked the visor in half and threw it on the grassy bank. then the copper said pick it up or littering fine... so he picked it up, put it in his jacket and went home..

yeah, the trick is to be as nice as possible, apologise and call him sir or officer. they lap it up as it makes them feel in control. then most of them will let you off lightly.

VincentR1, i dont see why your asking if the police care about visors, exhausts and number plates. in another post you asked if they bother about 33bhp de-restrictions.

you said in that post that you have plenty of experience to ride an R1 which is de-restricted but you dont have enough experience to know the answer to these simple questions??

also... in both posts everyone said it was a stupid idea and all that... but in both posts you say you are going to do it anyway.

if you were planning to do it anyway then why bother to even ask people?

to me it seems like your getting ahead of yourself because you want a more powerfull bike than your friends and you want to seem cool??

i want the r1 because i feel i'm ready for one, yes i'm well aware it's fast blah blah but i think to myself ''a bike will only go as fast as the throttle gets twisted'' and yeah i'm gonna de-restrict, my pals are on 600's and a few older folks 18/19 on 1000's.

i'm just wondering what the fines are etc for them

You get you 'nice' R1, go out with your mates, get pulled by the police who heard you 2 miles away from you can, See you number plate think "EASY MONEY!!!"

Pulled, £30 visor, £30 plate

restriction.........



But your going to do it anyway. Your bviously weighed up the up and downs.

Get pulled (and you probally will) make sure you have praticed your speach.

don't mind paying the fines... i have money i work with my uncle at the moment.

restriction is easy sorted just like what others do, and aye you can hear it a while away when you start it up the windows rattle and my dobermans go bizerk

i believe the fine for small number plates has gone up to £60.

not really worth it any more, £30 you could take, but £60!!
