I know we have various "best of all time" things on BCF and most of them fail but occasionally there is a good un and I think this is a good idea.

Each person can only pick one song. It has to be a song which to you is the best song of all time. I don't care if there are others you like or if someone else has posted it, it doesn't matter.

This is not a comparison type thread, I am just trying to find some musical magic.

Dire Straits - Money for Nothing

"You play the guitar on the mtv!"

Please try and post a youtube link aswell!

Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin

IS the greatest song ever created.

And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all.
To be a rock and not to roll

+Impossible to put it down to one song but I will try..
So much stuff from Gershwin and Bernstein, The great punk anthems like "I want to be your boyfriend" from the Ramones. The sound of rebellion in the 60s from Baez and Dilan and the entire output of Tamla Motown.
But I give you this https://www.youtube.com/watch?*=mK2T2aPooy4 "The Sacred War" a song so powerful that it inspired the Red Army march into almost certain death and drive the fascists from Russian soil.

Best song ever is Dire Straits - Telegraph Road.

I would put up a youtube link, but only the 12 minute long album 'Live remix' version from Money for Nothing is brilliant, the rest sound weird.

Changes a lot but I particualrly like Street Spirit (Fade Out) by Radiohead.

Especially when viewed as the video which is definately my number one music video.

Actually, I think you'll find that is NOT the greatest song in the world.

I think for me, It would be one of the UB40 Greatest hits.
As a child, My Dad was in the forces. We lived in Germany alot of the time, And did alot of driving to and from England to see grandparents etc.

Ever since I can remember, the music my Dad was playing 90% of the time was UB40.

One that that sticks the most, And gets my mind ticking every time I hear it is

UB40 - Many Rivers to Cross

Ben

Edit, Scrap that. It was this

Having a listen to that song is awesome. It is a brilliant tune and Mark Knopfler is just fantastic.

don't know about the best of all time but i can say my favourite.. even though i'm tempted to say Led Zep's Kashmir, i'd go for this one:

Portishead - Humming

it has a long intro so if you're the add / easily bored type fast-forward to about 1:15 Wink

I've always loved Beth Gibbons vocals, this one must be pretty near the top of her vocal range at points in the song.. the combination of the voice and the bassline is simple but well done Smile

I'm the same as a lot of people, my taste changes week in, week out, so I don;t really have a favourite song of all time. My favourite band is Green Day, so I;d have to choose something of theirs, which is no mean feat in itself but, purely because it never fails to bring a smile to my face and, if I'm in the car, lend some weight to my right foot, I would have to go for St Jimmy.

Someone else will have to post the Youtube link as it's blocked at work.

Cheers

Grim
