Flooding 2stroke 50cc engine...

hello,

My Bike tends to flood quite a lot, hence it doesn't start when I fire up the engine, be it electronically or kick started. How can I decrease the chances of it flooding?

I already found a way of reducing it by using less throttle when I start the bike.

Don't use any throttle at all when starting the bike, and only use choke when it REALLY won't start without it.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

If its your scooter, they usually have automatic chokes. Check that its not sticking on which could also let it run rich.

I don't have a manual choke on the bike. Also I have to give throttle on the bike for it to start.

The precedure I have to go through is: -

Pull rear brake lever -> Bring in some throtttle -> touch the ignition lever.

lower the jetting maybe the bike is getting to much fuel and cant burn it all ...

any bike ive ridden or owned would sputter and die if the throttle was on BEFORE starting up*, use it a second or so after and don't use too much!

How long have you had the bike? it took a LONG time to work out how to get my cg going, for such a simple beastie it was quite tricky to make it go (easy when you know how)

* remember most engine damage occours before the engine is warm, so take it easy and give it a minute to get up to tempreture.

You can fit a manual choke to most carbs with auto choke, even scooter ones. Ask your local garage if they can get you one. They dont cost much and make it so much easier to start you bike.

It's a bit silly putting a choke on a scooter though as the carburetter is so inaccessible. Wait till it turns over then give it throttle. A lot of bikes are different - my MT50 will only start with throttle and choke unless warm and my AR125 will not start with throttle. It's quite an artform but you just need to find how your bike likes it.

Most scooters have the carb in an easy to reach place. I would recomend fitting one as it makes starting your bike so much easier.

to lower the jetting take the carb of the bike and take the bottom of the carb of there are normally 4 screws holding it in take this of and pour the little bit of petrol out of it no look up inside it and you should see a copper screw this is the jet now take it out and look at thenumber at the side of it (it is very small)!!! now go and get one that is slightly smaller and try it if ya have any difficulties or i have not explained this well enough you can contact me on [email protected]
