Do something:

Quote:
I've been contacted to try and find some motorcyclists to take part in a
safety trial. The details are:

Transport Research Laboratory (Crowthorne, Berkshire, RG40 3GA).
They need motorcyclists (and cyclists) for some track trials.

They're on the weekends of 11th & 12th, and 18th & 19th July.

Food & drinks provided
£35 paid for attendance
£10 fuel allowance (for motorcyclists)

Interested (and over 25)?

Sandra Woodjetts:
swoodjetts @ trl.co.uk

"There will be a signalised crossroad set up on the large central area and
cyclists and motorcyclists will be filmed as they ride through the junction.
Participants should be arriving about 9am. It will be a full day on the
track with each session lasting about 40 minutes(2 morning 2 afternoon),
there will be a break for about an hour between sessions as there will be 2
groups in turn on the track. There will be a lunch break, food and drink
will be provided. I would bring a book/newspaper to read for the breaks."

Found in another place.

Place is great, it's like a playground! If I was an hour closer I'd go, just for blasting about the access roads!

I was given a tour round there a year or so ago. They build their own simulators from scratch, even got an HGV cab on in a room where they get drivers pissed and make them drive on virtual roads to see how they get on.

Apparently the real HGV drivers complain the cab is too clean and isn't realistic unless some old Macdonalds wrappers and 'eau de sweat' is sprayed about.

*Update*

Got an e-mail today to confirm my attendance and to summarise what the aim of the day is.

The aim of the day is to test the feasibility of allowing motorcycles to use the Advanced Stop Lines (ASL) together with cyclists.
Bicycles currently have a feeder lane to the left of the lane, this test instroduces a seperate feeder lane on the right specifically for motorcycles.

The tests will involve approaching a junction using the feeder lanes and then moving off from the stop to an assigned direction. There will be cyclists involved in the test, no cars will be taking part.

There will be 5 sessions each of 35 minutes long with a minimum of 35 mintes break inbetween each session.

It will take place on a large central area of the test track, no riding on other parts of the track (booo!)

a few Ts and Cs, one in particular stuck out:
2. You must not walk in the bordering woods. There are wild animals, including poisonous snakes.

I'll report more soon

Adders, found in the countryside all over the UK. No risk really, expect they've only put that in because of some stupid H&S rubbish.

Quite looking forward to it.. should be fun Smile

Just got to remember not to treat the cyclists with as much disdain and lack of respect as I would do normally... Angelic Whistle Very Happy

No, I think it's a great idea, which is why if I do hit a cyclist, I'll make sure no-one's looking first. Wink

It was called 'joking'. Rolling Eyes

It's a great idea, the problem I have is with the cyclists 'box' at the front of the queue of traffic. Why let the slowest vehicle to the front of the line? They're gonna get bolshy and posessive (which they need to be) and are small and unpredictable, motorbikes will be mixed in with that and I can see they cyclists not giving us the space they'd give a car, but us being the ones blamed whenever there's a coming together. Obviously the purpose of this experiment is to see what happens when you put bikes and cycles together in close proximity, and I'm sure being a test everyone will be terribly well behaved and aware.
