First off, any have any personal recommendation for more appropriate forums out there on the interweb to ask such questions?

Seeing that we aren't going for a house with a dream-shed/warehouse in the garden, I'll need to be making a small to medium sized shed fairly soon after moving in most probably.

So have been having a think about what to do - am thinking 5m x 6m floor area or so, to just avoid building regs.

First question; is there any problems using sheet materials for the walls etc, as opposed to feather edge?
Ie an ok ply, or even OSB etc... presuming it's given a decent coat of some kind of protection.

Second, I'd like it have a fairly minimal impact at it may be taken down in a couple of years, so was thinking of some kind of 'floating foundation' - this would negate the need for lots of digging and flattening. Would there be any problems with this given the size of the base and that it'll have some bikes in there - I presume it'll just need a bit more?

Lastly for the moment, can any one recommend a decent online timber merchant that shows prices so I can get a vague idea of likely costs. Oh and, err, what should I be looking at for general construction-timber? In the past I've just got planed stuff from wickes, which is regularly not-that-straight, etc, but has done the job.

if its not going to be permanant, then probably the best route would be tanalised timber buried straight into the ground (no concret)
and large pavers on a sand base,
i would go for an angled roof with an overhang,
ply for the walls is fine, use another strip of timber on the joins.
the standard size for large ply is 2440x1220 so go in multiples of that for the size of the shed(2440 height 1220 wide) , 600 is the standard size between beams but not entirely nessacery if the main supports are large enough,
the ply gives a substancial amount of strength to the overall building.

kitset garages are fairly cheap, failing that have a look on there site and use there designs Very Happy

talk to barry, his was slightly excessive, but he has a good grasp on whats needed, and how to overengineer Very Happy

Sorry to be guilty of resurrecting an old thread (well, less than a month).

I was browsing the ScrewFix site for some other stuff and came across this...
Forest Plastic Shed Base Medium Storage.

There are different size combinations available.

Remembering this thread (yes, my head is a shed!) I wondered if suitable for the 'floating' foundation' mentioned by G.

HTH Thumbs Up

Interesting... seen some similar ones, but not quite as 'simple to use' as those.

Won't really be suitable for my plans as they are, but interesting to keep in mind.

Presuming we actually manage to get the house ... which has been on and off several times.

Old Thread Alert!
