Police Helicopters

Does anyone know what the deal is with police helicopters? Let's say you went out for a ride and one of them clocked you speeding, would they then have to relay the information to a police car on the ground to stop you or could they just send you an NIP through the post?

Unless they are on their way back from a job and see some one driving madly, they would call a police car.

It hovers over the road ahead of you and an armed response unit rapells out of the side door and takes you out.

Oh wait. I mean they watch for you clipping the edge of a solid white line with one wheel as you go round a corner then radio ahead for a patrol car to pull you in and dispense a FPN.

There have been cases where the choppers have instigated stops.

I remember a couple of Welsh bikers in the news were filmed by chopper and traced.

Also it has been known for a police chopper to hover over Loch Lomond to alert ground units to oncoming bikes which may be a "little enthusiastic".

However due to the costs and limited time the choppers are in the air I think even the police know that it has more important jobs to do.

Yes the crew of a Parrafin Budgie can do speeders, it is fully fitted out with speed enforcement equipment, but in the main it supports ground vehicles.

Speed is up to 170 MPH and can stay in the air for about 2 hours, but it has the advantage of height so not a lot can out run it.

When I served my time on the budgie, we had a top speed of about 140 and about 1 1/2 hours flying time, but that was 20 years ago.

Thye markings you sometimes see on the Motorway are not only for calibration of traffic cars, but also the visible markings for the Helicopter so that it can record speeds over a set distance from height.

The chopper hovering around local area at middle hours of the mornin for about half hour with spot light on beaming down n sum stupid idiot proberly nicked a car or chavs pissing about !
I end up gettin outa bed and watch where it heads
