hi i bought a kdx125 for green laning and after having the bike tuned ported and derestricted carbon reeds dep pipe its still painfully under powered!

so i came across a kdx200 field bike compleat so im hopeing to swap the engines over this is no problem apart from thne fact the kdx has a center exit exhaust where the kmx comes out the barrel to 1 side

i can cut the frame and and reweld a peace in with a curve to avoid the new exhaust not a problem BUT will i still be able to get an mot???this wont be chicken shit welding it will be profesionly welded and be just as strong

thanks for and help Carl

Wellding your frame will not afect your mot but you should consider wellding the exhaust and moding it to fit the frame as it is.

i cant mod the exhaust as the frame goes right over the exhaust port about half inch in front

but thinking about it cause they cant fail it otherwise choppers would never get an mot...lol

If your prepared to cut away and re-weld a modified piece of downtube in for the frame, then the KMX200 engine should fit fairly easily IMO. Why you would want to risk ruining the frame or making it weaker for the KMX engine to fit i don't know? You could surely find a KDX200SR engine with a bit of looking around, and that should be a very easy engine swap, compared to the KMX lump.

Bit concearned that your finding a re-built and professionally tuned KDX 125 engine gutless though? They should make 24.5bhp and around 30bhp well tuned. Yes a 30bhp+ KDX or KMX will be peaky and only fast in the powerband, but bearing in mind the power delivery, i would not say that they are gutless?

Yes the kmx 125 engine is sweet however the kdx 125 engine has exhaust ports half the size of the kmx and really are gutless
the reason I'm putting sorry have now put a kmx engine in is because I managed to get a whole kmx200 bike for £150 with a great engine so I put the kmx engine into my road leagal kdx now putting kdx engine into the kmx field bike and gonna list it on eBay I reacon I will make my money back and then some

If your thinking of doing engine swaps i would recommend selling the kdx and buying a rolling chassis/ non running kx to be the new home for your kmx/kdx 200 engine,

it is a popular conversion and makes for a very nice green laner/ enduro bike if you can get the loom for the kmx you can have it road legal to boot you just need a good guage set or find a way to drive the stock speedo.

the kmx 200 engine is in the kdx frame and running very well and is already road legal the only reason i wanted to do an engine swap was cause the kdx 125 engines suck the big 1 i never knew this until i bought 1 i now have a kdx200 with tax n test that owes me £350 so i think it was worth the work

Glad you got it all done mate! Thumbs Up
Would like to see some pics of it with the work that you have had to do to the frame to get the KMX lump to fit. Did any of the engine mounts line up?

The KMX200 lumps are nice torquey engines IMO. They run well from 2500-6000rpm and again from 7000-8500rpm, with a flat spot where the KIPS valves change over. If it's a good one, then you should have around 30bhp and 20ibft. My 1st KMX would manage an easy 85mph, in anything other than a headwind.
