Hey all im looking to buy a buell xb12 firebolt and wanted to know from anyone who has one, who has owned one or even ridden one, i love the way they look, sound, and there heritage and the fact insurance is cheap lol, any help is much appreciated, thanks

Mine never let me down in the 18 months that I owned it, and it was awesome fun. It was totally impractical, very very cold in the winter, ran very very hot in the summer but there was nothing like it for simple honest to goodness grunt. Open the throttle in any gear any speed and you get fired forward on a cushion of torque.

I would reccomend getting as late a model as you can afford as there were a number of improvements made over the few years that the R Firebolt was available (the S Lightning pictured above is still available). One of the last changes was a newer slightly better swinging arm.

I've also never known any bike to be as confidence inspiriong or as fun in corners. It really flatters the rider. And with a decent exhaust it sounds awesome. The fuel tank is a little on the small side, but the belt is virtually maintenance free and doesn't need lubrication. My bike had done ten thousand miles on the original belt. With Pirelli Diablos it was a real weapon. The main reason why the handling is so good is that the user manual has a table that tells you all of the correct suspension settings for your weight.

The Buell XB models are truly underrated bikes. And As I said, if I could get a decent one for the right money I'd have one tomorrow. Unfortunately I can't currently afford £7k for a bike, and I can't be doing with a second hand one that still costs £4k. i'd ideally have an XB12Scg (the low seat model).

i have to say im not to bothered about an all out racer bike, would rather keep my liecence and look cool and have a really nice sounding bike, its not all about speed and im sure they will still give alot of things (cars and other bikes) a good run for there money, i think i will have to find a garage with one to test ride but i like you like quirky bikes, this gearing change you did, what does it involve and is it pricy as i would like a bike which will wheelie.

Its quite pricy but ride the thing before you decide because it will wheelie easily without any gearing changes.

yeh i found a harley dealer in newmarket which isnt very far from me so i think i will look at them, what do u think to the new 1125 as well, im not to sure on it, i think i fell in love with the buells unusual looks, and the hertiage it has with the bullet proof harley engine, would you say they are far powerful enough and is the rev limiter a problem as i had a v twin before so not so bad, did u have an uprated exhaust and if so which one as i would like a nice aftermarket one to bring out its true heritage Twisted Evil

I had the xb9sx and put 13k miles on it in a year. loved every moment that I had it. they are a great bit of kit and id have another tomorrow if I could.

The harley engine aint bulletproof.

The Buell one is better, but it is also in a high state of tune so don't expect it to be a Honda.

Watch out for the exhaust though, I know a lot of people who have had their exhaust replaced several times under warranty due to corrosion.
