Not bikes, so not in general chat but equally interesting.

I've had 3 recently, being the best and they virtually were on the same day but my driving was perfect before hand:

1) taking a corner too fast, convincing my mates I could handle it then ending up on the wrong side of the road missing a tree before ending up on my side again, passing a car seconds later. My judgement was questioned somewhat after that making me feel all big and hard. Rolling Eyes Embarassed

2) driving down the road about 35 when I see a couple hotties walking on the pavement toward us, we all check them out and I fail to notice the corsa sat half off the pavement that came milimetre's from losing it's wing mirror and having several N/S panels damaged. I'm glad there was nothing coming the other way when I had to swerve partially into the other lane.

3)*there was an earlier thread for this* reversing from a parking bay out to the left as a mate in the front seat started talking, she was also turning the radio on so I looked at her to say "you what?"... then (in the hire car) I hit a bollard and destroyed the front near side wing, me and another mate got out, him taking the piss as I'm cursing at my stupidity.

I've since avoided driving, I've decided that while I'm dangerous on bikes I can still ride them confidently and live down the jokes, I dont have the confidence to use a car anymore and I need to get one and use it carefully for a while, at some point.

Anyone care to make me feel better and top the lot? Laughing Karma

That lot sounds like newbie mistakes and is the reason why insurance tends to be higher.... Cool

But for embarrassing moments in a car:

Wheel tapping along to Leonard Nimoy - Bilbo Baggins unaware everyone outside can hear it Embarassed

Having several cars break down at the most inconvenient place possible...

Overtaking a truck in a company car only to have the engine self destruct shortly afterwards...

The best one:

Being issued a Peugeot 206 1.4 HDi 3dr Hatch and having to spend all day in the darn thing.

Since having my license a couple years, I've been driving a while and not cared to mention it, only recently have I made these 'mistakes'. It does sound like n00b errors but in the past I've driven sensibly and rationally.

Having witnessed your driving on several occasions......... Laughing

P.S, I'd happily call shotgun again, you're really not that bad. Until you put teh music on. Mr. Green

Most embarrassing moments in a car have always been while the car has been stationary with the windows steamed up. Sometimes its been a knock on the window from the boys in blue, sometimes it has been the realisation that other people have been watching and having a shuffle themselves, a few times have been where she has dripped afterwards leaving dollops all over the seats.

errrm it was 6 in the morning late for work, my car was iced up, it was dark, i scratched a small looking hole in the windscreen and had my windows open

i was driving down my street about 20mph or so with head out the window ace ventura style, thought id check the windscreen spy hole to make sure everything was ok and in front of me was a parked vans rear lights reflecting back at me, swerved into the road and managed to miss it.

neighbour down the road was about to get in his car during this and saw the whole thing, gave me the look of facepalm

I think mine was test driving the little rover 100 that I had got for my wife to teach her to drive. Had a mate sat with me on a narrow country road and he was saying how well it handled at speed.

I turned to him and said "cornering is just a matter of how big your balls are" while accelerating out of the corner and at that moment the car lost it. Cue 180 degree spin the wheels hitting the kerb and flipping the car through a metal fence onto its roof in a field.

Two lessons learned :

1. Never show off to a mate and think your big and clever when you can't drive that well.

2. Rover 100's are crap.

Nothing worth putting with myself driving, but I will tell of a mate.

He bought a little Metro GTA, had it resprayed black and a week later I go round and have a little play in it on this offroad concrete area near his house. He gets in it (he hadn't done lessons or anything but boasted how well he could drive) so I thought I'd sit it out and watch him driving about there instead.

There's some hay bails stacked up around the edge of this area, he's parallel to them and decides to show off real fast in reverse, does the whole arm over the passenger seat thing looking back, and gets quite abit of speed up, palm of his right hand on the wheel all cool and he spins the wheel round as fast as he could. Big mistake when he was going rather fast in reverse! Car spins round really fast, hits the corner of the bottom hay bail taking it out, and the top one falls on the front left of the car lifting the rear right of it up in the air. He's still got his foot on the accelerator revving the nuts off it, refusing to accept he's messed up while I laugh my arse off at him!

I'd love to have had a video of it, or have taken a picture of the car with the back lifted off the ground and a hay bale on the front, and to top it off he'd had it resprayed a week before and it was fekked Laughing

Few years ago I was joining the M6 on my way to Birkenhead.

There was this long, sweeping right hander before a tunnel and then the slip road.

I was trying to 'make progress' in the right hand of the two lanes, a white van man I'd been battling with in the left.

As the corner tightened, his handling won - I failed.

Halfway through the corner, grip gave up and my car span 320 degrees, stopping on a gravel trap to the right, my right rear bumper approximately half an inch from a lampost. Shocked

I picked my heart up out of the passenger footwell, popped it back in, restarted the engine and re-joined the road. Laughing

How I managed to not hit a) the van b) another vehicle c) the lampost I'll never know. Think it was a warning kick up the arse with regards my driving at the time. Karma

The words 'rolled car' and 'beach' are in my mind for some reason. Oh yeh. My first car was a 1988 Mitsubishi Pajero (Shogun over here) with a 3L V6 with a straight through exhaust which spat flames out Twisted Evil So anyway, driving down to the beach to meet some mates to go kiting I had to drive across the sand to get to the seafront I see my mates and planted my foot flat in second, bouncing off the limiter and locked the wheel right, then left, the right, then leSHIT I'M ON MY ROOF! My mates all found it hilarious but there was no damage to the car at all, I had a stiff neck cuz I wasn't wearing a seatbelt Rolling Eyes

Ambulances and 'drive-thru' fast food joints dont mix.

Nor does, ragging the ambulance through London on the blues and your crew mate forgetting it's not automatic. Goes bang eventually.

Shifty

EDIT - Found the post-incident photo!

I dont think ragging is ever a word that can be levelled at the LAS!
