Last time, honest Very Happy

I'm very close to buying this bike, please tell me what you think:

https://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/bikes/TRIUMPH+SPEED/Ne-2-4-7-8-27-64-104-133-146-236,N-121-239-4294960299-4294967162/advert.action?R=200928337569479&distance=1&postcode=w12+7la&channel=BIKES&make=TRIUMPH&model=SPEED&min_pr=&max_pr=&max_mileage=&vehicleYearOfManufacture=2006&vehicleRegLetter=

He is offering me a provisional £1300 for my CBR. One thing i'm not sure on is that he said the restrictor will cost between £120-£180 is that right?

Thank You once again! Laughing

Nice bike, try https://www.fiinternational.com/ for speed restrictor.

Sounds about right price for one though..

No it's not. The restriction for the speed four/tt600 is only £30 official triumph part. The aftermarket one is 180 or so bucks, but insist he order the official triumph part. Failing that take it to a triumph dealer to restrict it.

From then on, I and the bicycle feelings deeper.

I'd actually suggest people avoid FI International. Money-grabbing scaremongerers.

Triumph dealer like Muzza says would be my choice.

Yeah I just spoke to the Triumph dealer and he said they have the £30 ones (low stock though) but he also said it has to be fitted by a Triumph dealer and because it is complicated to fit I have to pay around £100 labour charges Neutral

Dirty dogs Laughing I haggled my dealer to supply and fit the kit for free when I bought the bike. Good job I did as after haggling down £200 quid off the price, full years MOT and restriction thrown in, I feel I still paid just over the odds.
Try getting that dealer to restrict it, or at least labour charges when he sells you the bike. (After you've haggled down the initial bike cost)

Also try find out what the official labour time is for restricting a Speed Four, as I'm sure most places would only charge an hours labour.

I will do Thumbs Up

I have to take my bike to him so he can fix a px price and I'm also going to try and haggle with the price of the bike and restriction.

What do you think on the mileage?

Before I go and sort it all out, is there anything in particular I should be looking for?

The usual when you look at it, any crash damage or obvious repairs, look for things to use to knock the price down, tyres, C&S, brake pads etc. When you get it home, have a look in the airbox for oil, the crankcase breather seal is weak on these, if you find oil in the airbox, take it back and demand that they put a new seal on it. It's not a long job to do.

Cheers

Dude, you might want to change your link in the OP to this one:-

https://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/bikes/TRIUMPH+SPEED/Ne-2-4-7-8-27-64-104-133-146-236,N-121-239-4294960299-4294967162/advert.action?R=200928337569479

You can see your postcode in the original link (not sure if that concerns you, but its probably not the best idea to have where you (and your bike) live splashed about on the interweb! Wink).

Sorry - no advice on bike mind Embarassed

They are good bikes mate, very reliable and well built, mine has withstood 3 winters now and still looks good.
Nothing really specific to look out for, just the oil in the airbox, and occasionally water can get in past the coils and corrode the spark plugs.
To combat this i put some grease around the coils to prevent the water getting in.
Other than that, they are ace bikes Thumbs Up

I'd agree on the coils front, the coils are built into the spark plug caps and, if water does get in and corrode, the plastic surround to the coils can break up and make it a pain to get them out, as there is little to grab hold of.

I've also seen an issue on a mate's bike that I worked on where the flimsy plastic fuel hose clip broke and leaked fuel averywhere. The fuel pump is in the tank on these so be careful when you remove the tank etc.

He's happy with his though and I see a lot of good reviews.

Cheers

Thank you for the help Thumbs Up

I'm going to see him on Saturday. I'll be following my dad in the car on my bike because the dealer wants to see my bike for the px. Fingers crossed I won't have to ride the CBR back Laughing Praying
