Company applies to bring Rock and Blues Custom Show back to Pentrich

A MUSIC* festival which was cancelled following the murder of biker Gerry Tobin could return after a company applied to run it for three years.

The Rock and Blues Custom Show was stopped last year after police objections, which following the killing of Mr Tobin, a Hell's Angel.

At first, show organisers One Percent Entertainments had wanted to hold the event at Catton Hall, in Walton-on-Trent.

But police objected to the proposals because they feared violent clashes between Hell's Angels bikers and their rivals, the Outlaws Motorcycle Club.

They did the same when the company asked for a licence to bring the event back to its original home at Coney Grey Showground, in Pentrich.

Seven members of the Outlaws are now serving prison sentences for the murder of Mr Tobin, who was shot in the head near the M40 Warwick Services in August, 2007.

Now One Percent Entertainments has applied to Amber Valley Borough Council for a licence to hold the festival at Pentrich from July 23 to 26 each year, for three years.

The licence would be for an event attracting up to 15,000 people.

Managing director Simon Covell said he could not understand why last year's event was cancelled.

He said: "The shooting involved nobody other than the people involved.

"The Hell's Angels had their do at the Bulldog Bash last year and there was no trouble.

"I don't know whether the police had intelligence about violence or whether they didn't."

Mr Covell said his company was prepared to go to court if the licence application was turned down this time.

He said: "We'd have no choice. At the end of the day, we've done nothing wrong."

Mr Covell said he did not believe there would be any serious trouble at the event if a licence was granted.

Derbyshire police said officers had already met with One Percent representatives.

A spokesman said: "We are not in a position to say whether we will support or object to the proposals.

"But we have met with the organisers and will be looking in detail at the application."

A spokeswoman from Amber Valley Borough Council said it had received the application on Tuesday and that a public consultation was now under way.

She said: "It's difficult to say when a decision would be made until we have seen what representations are made."

In November last year, Sean Creighton, Dane Garside, Dean Taylor, Malcolm Bull, Karl Garside, Ian Cameron, from Coventry, and Simon Turner, all from Nuneaton, were sentenced to life imprisonment at Birmingham Crown Court for the murder of Gerry Tobin in 2007.

*Music festival - wtf???

Hopefully they will actually bring it off this year.

I hope they don't, the lying cunts.

I'm afraid I will NEVER forgive One Percent Entertainments for LYING to us that they had the licence, when they hadn't, and subsequently fucking over hundreds of ticket-buyers and countless traders for THOUSANDS of pounds. Mad

I still have the administrators documents I was sent (as someone who pissed £40 away due to OPE's lies) with the list of all the people owed, and by how much. Shocking, especially for the traders.

(Can you guess this subject makes me angry?!? Laughing )

I do have happy memories of RnB 2006 & 2007, but Rock and Bike Festival (now just off the Borrowash Bypass) is now my new July destination. Thumbs Up

Did we have a body swap while I wasn't looking?

I am still not entirely clear about what happened last year, it was on and off like a lightswitch.

Did OPE fold due the monies they owed people?

They did indeed, I will fish the docs out tonight for the wording. I couldn't be bothered filling out pages of forms to attempt to claim my money back, not sure whether anyone who did, actually saw any refund.

Makes me wonder where they all of a sudden have the funds to hold an event this year...Thinking

Chirping in here...

I watched a wee thing on telly a couple of weeks ago where they showed how a football match held a city to seige for over four hours from a time before the match even started.

Horses, Hoolivans, Chopters, SPGs and CCTV and cetera.

My point football does this every week to cater for a minority.
Biking events are something of a rare event.
Why do bikers still get tarred with the rebellious/murderous bastarts brush?

Just because we can filter and beat a few Gatsos....? Smile

Really surprised at this news. Shocked
Especially as I thought One Percent Entertainment had been made bankrupt last year? I thought the list of creditors was from the administrators? I was on the list and like the other post couldnt be bothered to fill in the application to get money back. Friends of mine did bother but I don't think they got any money back anyway.
So I wonder how a bankrupt company could start up again this year? Even though I really enjoyed going for a few years, I gotta admit I am uncertain how much I trust this company to get the festival going again? Not just the money but cos I also booked time off work to fit in with the dates and ended up with no weekend away!
I certainly would NOT be buying the tickets in advance, and if many others feel that way, how could they have the money to set up the festival?? If they do have the money, then shouldnt the people who bought tickets and the traders get their refunds for last year's fiasco??

Yep, a friend of mine also did complete the forms but didn't see a penny back. Mad

I was considering writing to OPE and asking them if there will be complementary tickets for those who can prove they lost out last year... Rolling Eyes

Oh, and nice of them to spam me a link to their updated site advertising the new application by email...cheeky sods.

(Hello from a newbie)

I also filled in the forms and got nowt back. If it is still One Per Cent Ents running this then I can't see how that would be legal? I've been to about 15 or more R&Bs and enjoyed every one of them but I certainly wouldn't pay money up front again. It will take a lot of convincing for me to take time off work as well. I was certainly more out of pocket than just the price of two tickets AND, having checked all was still OK a few days before, I didn't know it wasn't on until we had done over 100 miles and someone happened to mention it at a service station:-(

I shall be watching with interest. I'm still bloody angry too.

Gutted the the other event listed - Rock and Bike Fest - clashes with something important but nothing like as exciting, I'll look out for it next year instead!

Wow, I was very angry back in March! Laughing

Does it make me a hypocrite to have a 2009 ticket? I swapped my 2008 one. Not completely forgiven them, but giving them a chance since they did the right thing eventually.

Gonna give us a clue, Jenks? Wink

No, of course not Embarassed

It does go a long way to making up, though not for missing Budgie Sad

However, I still do question the legality of it all and am still miffed by the communication, or lack of it. They didn't bother to send an email to the account I had registered with them and we only found out by a fluke just as we were about to leave the house last year. Massive disappointment and wasted day off work.

Funny how they are using that same email address again now, when it suits them, that's the one I gave 1% Entertainments, who no longer exist...

Shall watch out for Snakeskin then!

Gonna do a write-up when I get my pics sorted.

In all honesty? No it wasn't any good. It was nice camping with my mates, and some of the music was cool.

The event itself? The organisers? Extorting tossbags.

(Yes, I am back in angry mode!)

They implemented:

NO ALCOHOL TO BE BROUGHT ON SITE (no, not just glass like every other rally and like RnB 2006 & 2007, NO ALCOHOL Neutral )

NO GAS TO BE BROUGHT ON SITE (no, not just the huge calorgas canisters as with previous years, NO CAMPING STOVES Neutral )

Cars AND bikes were searched relentlessly. They confiscated beer, spirits, mini camping stoves, the lot.

They 'confiscated' my new single burner flat stove that runs off the aerosols. It was that new, there was no gas. I intended to buy some from the campshop on arrival. Bloke said 'you might have gas hidden in your bags, so rather than go through them I'll confiscate this'.

Incidently there was a big gap in the camp shop display where the canisters usually are at EVERY OTHER RALLY.

Their intention? Utterly transparent.

They intended to FORCE patrons to buy ALL food and drink from the bar and food stalls.

£2.00 for a can of warm Carling - no bulk discounts, slabs etc.
£1.50/£2.00 for a shit cup of tea
£4.00 for a shit burger
£2.00 for 12 chips

How fucking DARE they. Utterly disgusting. Quite how they thought they could justify it is beyond me.

Luckily, between our group we managed to smuggle enough in for bacon and brews and about half the beer we needed. It really spoilt the weekend though.

I tried to give them a chance after last years debacle, now they can really fuck right off. Middle Finger

Well actually not really, no! First of all we got very rained on - after waving to the neighbour sitting out in the pub beer garden at the end of our road as we set off, less than a mile from home we couldn't continue and had to turn back. I don't think I've ever been so drenched, the rain was that hard I could hardly pull my waterproofs on. Back at home we unpacked everything, stuck it in the tumble dryer and airing cupboard, sat and watched telly instead.

So we missed the Friday night altogether. We got going again Sat am and were spoilt for choice with places for the tent when we got there, I've never seen it so empty. If there was a tenth of the usual capacity I'd be surprised. I guess it's a combination of people still being mightily pissed off with them and the lack of named bands. I suppose the Quireboys are relatively big, but I'm not that fussed about them really.

The custom show, normally spread over about 3 big marquees, was just a fenced off bit instead, the burger van near us actually closed up on the Saturday and there weren't as many stalls.

I kinda wished we hadn't bothered, but then if we hadn't gone at all, we wouldn't have known.

We'll give it a miss next year unless we're keen on the bands. I never thought I'd say that, to be honest, it's always been in my diary (well actually it's a google calendar now:-)) whoever was on, so I really hope they can attract everyone back with some good bands.

Had a great time and nice to see the Levellers again. Smile

Oh ... and yes there seems to be a new thing about not allowing camping gas onto sites, I think it might be a condition of granting the go-ahead (a guess) - it's the same at Sonisphere this weekend.

We were asked if we had any alcohol, glass or gas and we said no, got the 'pat down' of the bags and panniers and then were waved through. To be honest, if they'd have confiscated our gas and I wouldn't be able to make myself a brew and bacon butty, I think I may have turned back round and buggered off to Matlock Bath or summat! You would not like to know me when I can't get a decent brew, I'm like a female Guy Martin!

Anyway, we never carry glass....

Haven't been to the Bulldog for a few years. This year it clashes with Brands BSB and Cambridge Rock Festival. I've dithered much too long and appear to be going to none of them!

Do the Bulldog every year for about the last eight as its just good value for money, always has loads of traders, good bands etc + the drag strip, so plenty of entertainment for me and me mates
