to make a dugout canoe.

I've read that a good size is about 30 inch diameter and 8/9 foot long.

Any ideas where to get one, as I doubt "big logs" are normal purchases in this country.

Ask Captain Kirk, his log must be massive by now the way he always goes on about it.

Timber yard or decent tree surgeon (that's not pikey type) - depends what type of timber you're planning on using as to expense involved!

There is a big log in our back garden that needs taking away... though I'm thinking it might be a tad on the small size, and unless you were anorexic, or a size zero supermodel, I doubt it'd be much use. Cool

The dugout canoe is going to be pretty heavy, so I'd suggest you make it near the water you want to use it in.

Like bazza, I'd suggest chopping down a tree as being the easiest solution for something that is still going to be quite tricky to do.

I think this is going to be one of those bcf noble effort gets abandoned things, but we will need pics and a thread to follow its progress.

Unlike some other bcf noble efforts, this one is unlikely to injure you or anyone else, which is a good thing.

They used the following ingredient and sticky back plastic.

Strange dream last night...

Trapped in a damaged submarine station thingy, not much air until I handily found a rebreather and a depth gauge and made my escape.

Turned out it was only like 10m down.

No sharks tho happily!

I think if your going to cut down a tree big enough for a dug out canoe, it's going to be missed. You'd be looking at something 60+ years old with all the branches needing stripped off...

Not sure how you could do it to be honest. That size of tree in terms of lumber value would be very high so buying it would be out of the question...

How about a second hand ordinary canoe and a can of that fake wood effect radiator paint...

No?

Oh well.
